This neat ice cream parlor serves homemade ice cream in the Historic Haymarket district. The black-and-white tiles, cafe tables and antique light fixtures in the parlor are starting to show their age. But since a line of customers always stretches out the door of the Creamery building and into the street, nobody sees them anyway. I don't care how good the ice cream is, it's 2017 and cash only is ridiculous. There are plenty of ways small businesses can take cards that don't cost them as much as they'll gain in business.
Business response:
We ran the numbers of this convenience idea. The cost of processing our average sale and the percentage that is then paid to a completely uninvolved entity (visa, MasterCard etc), not to mention the paperwork, internet expansion, would be equal to the pay of two Coneheads, and a hefty part of our community donations. We are opting for keeping the cash in the community 😃
