Many New Yorkers believe Il Mulino restaurant, nestled in Greenwich Village, has the finest classic Italian cuisine in New York City. As a result, reservations can be very hard to come by, but it is often much easier to snag a table at lunch. A meal at Il Mulino can be quite expensive, but portions are definitely on the large side. The service is of course professional and attentive, and the decor is classy and subdued.

Two of us in our party arrived 30 minutes prior to our reservation and had a drink a the bar while we waited for the other two in our party. They arrived fifteen minutes before our reservation. 50 minutes after our reservation we still hadn't been seated and any time we asked we were ignored or were rudely told they would get to us. Three tables that arrived well after us were all seated and we still remained waiting without a tale. Someone in our party went and asked what was going on and we were told that several tables ha... read more
A New York Institution – I went to Il Mulino once with six other family members. One of us was a regular, so a reserved table was miraculously awaiting our arrival. We sat in the middle of an extremely crowded dining room, the state of which served as testimony that this is one of New York's most famous eateries. The waitstaff here wait on their charges hand and foot, and there were probably about five tuxedoed men taking care of our party. We started the dinner with appetizers: a waiter came around with a monstrous block of... read more
Touristo city! – Last Saturday night I visited Il Mulino with a group of friends. I had been looking forward to going for quite some time as reservations are difficult to come by and I had heard great things about the restaurant. When we walked in it was easy to see that the Saturday night crowd does NOT live in NYC. Everyone in the place was an out-of-towner looking for a NYC experience. That was a bit of a downer. I knew we would have to wait and proceeded to get a drink at the bar. Mission unaccomplished. The bar area is ... read more
Just Great – Everything about this place is great- not pretentious, just well-made dishes and good service. The last time I went I enjoyed the steak although I usually get the spaghetti with clams. Such a treat.
Transport Yourself To Italy – at Il Mulino. Tables are coveted as this small, intimate Italian restaurant. The food and wine are aplenty here. Once seated, four waiters come by with delicious complimentary dishes like a cold zucchini appetizer, eggplant, appetizer in addition to your standard garlic bread sticks to start. The portions are HUGE and I do mean huge, with one portion serving enough for two so don't snack before you go. Be sure to order some wine as they have a huge selection. Be sure to try the mushroom ravioli,... read more
Do not even try!!! – This is one of those places where people that don?t know the italian ?cucina? and have never been to Italy think: it's good food... Really: it's NOT? They kept us waiting for more than half an hour in a dark crowded and unpleasant area and we booked the table (after 50 phone calls!) You can not possibly read the menu, you can not see the prices and they start serving you in incredibly small tables, all sorts of oily ?small starters? that are just to prize your eyes but don?t do any good. The place is sma... read more
Horrendos – I'm an italian chef and some american friends that has never been to Italy suggested me the place. Bad: very bad! You try to call to book and there is no way that they pick up the phone, I went in person to book, they have been unpolite and worse the dinner was incredibly expensive and the food was bad. They serve the wine pouring it like it's water, the food is greasy and not well made and too too expensive. This is the place for americans that believe italian food is like that but seriously don't go there! I as... read more
Lovely place Lovely Food// Il Mulino, Puerto Rico – If you are ever visiting in Puerto Rico, make sure you visit Il Mulino at the Ritz Carlton. The food was so amazing that it transports you back to New York. It is very romantic, but it can also be a great place to spend with friends, since you're almost inside of the casino. Just make sure that you make a reservation ahead of time... and confirm it the day before just in case it gets lost in space.
