A recent addition to Chelsea's restaurant scene, this steakhouse was more than welcome in the neighborhood. With a raw bar, wine bar, Italian cuisine and alfresco seating, the crowds never go disappointed. If you can't afford to spend time at the restaurant, you can always pick up your order from the takeaway counter facing the street. They also offer rooms for private parties and the seating capacity is for 150 people.

"You screwed me, " said the waiter – Honestly, last night was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a Manhattan restaurant, make that any restaurant, anywhere. We were subjected to the MOST obnoxious server I have ever encountered. He was angry about a table mix-up (the fault of the hostess & manager, not my friends and I), berated us repeatedly, and when he finally deigned to take our order after making us wait 30 minutes, informed the table, "You screwed me." It was outrageous, unbelievable, not to mention HOSTIL... read more
poor customer service, decent food – After getting seated immediately, we proceeded to sit and wait at least 20 minutes before we were offered water and able to place our drink order. Then it took forever to finally receive our drinks and for our waiter to come back to take our food order. Salad was so-so, pasta was decent. Plates were never cleared after we finished each course and so after waiting around again, we finally managed to flag down someone so we could just get the check and go. The place wasn't crowded so we wou... read more
Try the "Long Lunch" special – I ate here for dinner earlier this week and then came back for lunch today after seeing their amazing $15 fixed price lunch. You get a full sized appetizer and entree (same ones as off the dinner menu) and a dessert of the day. It's great food, a beautiful space and the service is fantastic. Definitely worth a try especially if you work or live in the area.
lackluster – Being that this is supposed to be a "steak restaurant & wine bar"....it was the worst steak I have had in a long time and the waiter knew very little about the wine list. They did nothing to pacify the inedible steak situation, which of course makes it all the worse. Absolutely no bar scene on a Thursday night? This is definately a "skip it"....
Great food, friendly service – Highly recommend Il Bastardo for its food and service. Appetizers and dinner were reasonably priced and delicious. The service was friendly, prompt and conscientious. The atmosphere was very pleasant. While I am not a wine connisseur by any stretch, my impression is that wines are priced slightly higher than necessary. Regardless, it was a wonderful dinner.
GREAT FOOD & DRINK without attitudes – I have been to Il Bastardo twice and both times I enjoyed the meal. The staff is friendly and they know when to check in and when to back off. The food is great for the money. The decor is pretty cool. It's a chelsea spot so you'll see a lot of gay lovers gazing adoringly across the tables at one another -- so cute. It's a very true New York place too. You wont' see any flyover state people here (unless they came to live in NY). Overall the menu has tons of choices. I LOVE the grilled c... read more
Decent – Prices were fair, food was very good, service was OK. Less than inventive menu, but a solid experience none-the-less. Wine list was extesive, and Italian speaking waiters make for an ethnic experience.
Il Bastardo – This is a great place to go with a group. The crowd is a bit loud, but you can definitely hear your dining mates across the table. The staff is very friendly and they're able to recommend the best wines for their dishes. This is one of the "better" group restaurants in the city. Meet your friends here. It's a nice setting with 2 sides.
Beautiful Ambiance!! Staff very welcoming! – Me and my husband had reservations for new years eve at 11. When we got there (early I might add) they sat us very quickly. He had a margarita, and I had a grey goose martini, and OMIGOD I dont know if it was because of new years but that drink was sooooo huge. I was in an enormous maritini glass. I had the red snapper with roasted veggies, it was seasoned perfect. Then after we were done eating we went into the "lounge" and the DJ was nice enough to let me mix a song!!! Great pla... read more
