Love this place – What a hideaway in the village! If you are looking for a great meal at a good price then this is the place. The waitstaff as as friendly as could be and you can see why Hungry's has been such a neighborhood treasure for so many years. You have to try the gyros pita, its one of the best in Houston. Manager was friendly and even came by to make sure everything was great, this is my saturday night getaway!
LOVE it! – I have been looking for a good "cafe" in Houston for some time now, and I've finally found it! The food here is fresh and flavorful. And a great value! The menu is broad so you can try something new every time you go (I have not yet been disappointed!). The atmosphere is great - relaxed and cozy (the patio outside is so nice after dark) Some people have complained about the service - I have only been a few times, but I have never had a problem. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!
Disappointed after a lot of hype – This place was recommended to me due to my affinity for healthy living and my love of flavorful food. I was disappointed, maybe I set my standards a little high. I ordered a Greek Omelette and it was dry and lacking in flavor. My potatoes were just plain cold. We asked for straws on more than two occasions and never got them. Great Experience – My friends all looked at my wife and I like were insane for living in SW Houston and never having eaten at Hungry's Cafe. They took us there and we were both pleasantly surprised at how nice a place it is. Our waitress was nice, food was great(big portions) and the decor was nice as well. It is on our list of places to eat at again.. and again... and again. PS. It has a good selection of vegetarian meals.
Great for a casual night – There is something for everyone on the menu at Hungry's. We loved the hummus; it was fantastic. I loved the grilled chicken kabobs-- the salads also looked great. My husband enjoyed his cheesesteak, although it wasn't as good as the ones we make at home (it never is, though, is it?). Our server was so nice, so attentive. The whole experience was good. We will go back.
Frustrating – We love the food at Hungry's! They have great hummus and their weekend brunch is nice. But...the service is horrible. Unfortunately, good food can only make you a favorite for so long if the service is awful. Little tip to the management, train your waitstaff to pick up used dishes before presenting the bill! It's unfortunate because we are fond of the food, but we won't be headed back...
Super Good! – Fresh food, great service, solid value. Nothing fancy on the menu, but it reads like a who's-who of old favorites. Definitely for when you want something tasty, hearty and reliable. Enjoy!
Great Ambience, Poor Eats – Hungry's is well named. You have to be really hungry to appreciate these vittles. Had a hankering for a juicy burger and was vastly disappointed. It was a very dry patty about a third of the bun size. The wine list is mainly American/Australian and very limited, but well priced. Black Bean soup was bland and tepid. Server was inexperienced.
Wonderful salads – We love the greek salads here, and be sure to ask for pita bread with the salad, it comes out fresh and hot! Also, make sure to take a look at their dessert selection. We love to try a new dessert each time we go here!
