Tasty appeizers; disasterous main – I had a mixed experience. The ambience and the service was great; the eclectic crowd interesting. Crabcake and shrimp appetizers were quite tasty and at $10 fairly priced. My dinner partner and I shared the paella. It was a disaster. The rice was dry and the seafood was overcooked. Never again. Moreover, it was $34! Wine prices are ridiculous. They appear to be 3x retail, if not more. We sat in the patio area in front of the bar which is the most animated space and best for people watching... read more

Harlem finally has great and friendly staff – Although I have had many dining experiences in lower and upper manhattan, I had never before come across such a genuine friendly, and happy restaurant staff. I mean from the hostesses when you first walked in, who I might say are gorgeous, to the management staff who personally stops by your table to thank your visit to this incredibly amazing establishment. Yes, I will admit, the prices are higher than expected for what is on the menu, but the indoor and outdoor architecture alo... read more

My favorite new place – I am a NYC restaurant diner and I have never had great experinces in Harlem so when suggested by friends that I go I was a bit apprenhensive. No longer will I judge all Harlem restaurants the same. From the moment I walked thur the gates I was amazed by the beautiful friendly host that welcomed me and my five gal pals in. The fantastic sounds floating in the summer air from an outstanding 5 peice band, and the dynamic range of guest. We waited only 5 min for our 8pm res and the evening got better and ... read more

Not Impressed – I went to the Hudson River Cafe yesterday for Sunday brunch. I was really excited because I live in Harlem, and there are very few nice restaurants, and even fewer with the greatest customer service. I will give them points on the overall appearance:Nice decorations, ambiance, they even have live jazz music from Thursday-Sunday. I ordered poached eggs and smoked salmon with potatoes, when the plate came I noticed the salmon wasn't smoked but cooked, and cut up in little bits. I hate cooked salmon. When I brou... read more

Not worth the fuss! – My Boyfriend and I were thrilled when the Hudson River Cafe finally opened. We decided to try it on Friday night. It was very disappointing. I had the Salmon and Garlic potatoes which was OK?but not the worst. My boyfriend had Churassco and Yuca Fries ( or at least what is said to be Yuca fries). I can?t agree more with the review below me. The Yuca fries were straight out of the box. If you are thirsty, not to worry the waiter will be glad to refill your glass, over and over again, at $ 10.00 per bottl... read more

It's a flop. – Since my posting is about to expire & it's obvious that the restaurant staff is posting bogus "great" ratings, I thought it was imporant to inform potential customers to stay away from this lousy eatery. Originally posted on 6/22/07: After weeks of anticipation, my husband & I were excited about the possibility of enjoying a new trendy, local hot spot w/ fabulous foods and wines. When this restaurant opened, we had high hopes of an exciting experience. Quite the contrary, my breast of duck was dry like a rubbe... read more
