Satisfied customer – Ok where do I start? It was just great from a to z; from the cute boy who served me to the all around friendly staff. First I got a great banquet, then I got to look at the cutie serving me which well ladies and gentlemen was absolutely delicious eye candy. We followed by ordering their Lobster and Crab fondue - creamy heaven (served with flames and all) and their Wild Salmon 3 ways (smoked, ceviche, tartar). Not a fan of the smoked salmon, but the other 2 were tasty. We of course got a bottle of prosecc... read more
Atrocious! – I took a friend from out of town for brunch here. The service was absolutely terrible. Not only did the waiter pay less than sufficient attention to us, but we had to go FIND our own menus and basically hunt down someone to get us condiments! We asked for pepper and salt - TWENTY MINUTES later the waiter comes back with two pepper shakers and walks away. My order was wrong, so I had to send it back to the kitchen. My friend's order was not anything like it was described on the menu. The atmosphere was decent - n... read more
Great Place, Customer Service & Drinks – When writing a review for a restaurant, it is important to remember to write about the food and/or drinks, atmosphere, personal attention and overall cleanliness. With that said, the Hudson River Cafe is a bustling environment, ideal for after hour cocktails and a good time with friends. I arrived with my friend for drinks at 7 PM. We sat at the bar, and promptly ordered two Malibu with pineapple cocktails. The drinks, made by a quiet but friendly bartender, were prepared in front of ... read more
Discriminatory bartender! Unbelieveable! Isn't it the 21st century? – I was visiting a friend in Manhattan who lives in Harlem and she suggested we grab a drink at Hudson River Cafe on a Saturday night. I looked at their specialty cocktail menu and saw their signature mojito was made with Cruzan Rum. I am from St. Croix where the rum is made and hardly ever see it in the states so that is the only reason I even ordered the drink. After ordering, I watched the bartender make mine with BACARDI LIMON! I would have rather had a ... read more
Valet parking - on bike path! – This restaurant uses the bike path for valet parking. this is, of course, illegal, and it also obviously endangers bikers - that can be a pretty busy road at times. It's also dangerous for patrons getting out of cars, and for their cars - bikers forced to ride a narrow line between the illegally parked cars and roadway can often end up causing damage to the parked cars. If you see the valet stand out on the bike path, please don't go into the restaurant.
BOUNCE THE HOSTESS, KEEP KURT !! – Working in the area my girlfriend and I were excited about being able to get a couple drinks nearby after work. When we arrived at the HRC there was some sort of function going on and no one at the door had a clue asto wether we could still use the bar or not. The 1st question was if we had reservations, we had none and the guy was told by the hostess right away that if we did not have reservations we were not allowed in but when I stated that we did not want to eat just chill at the bar I ... read more
A large, lively patio and a diverse New American menu attract a gaggle of pretty people in far-west Harlem. – The Hudson River Café may lack views of the titular river, it does have its own version of dramatic scenery. The large two-story patio gets buzz not only from its stylish Harlem clientele and live bands, but also from the occasional Amtrak train whizzing by mere feet away. The eclectic menu delves into oceanic eating--seviche, a raw bar and a lobster roll--and more earthbound fare like skirt steak with yucca fries an... read more
Came and Went...Already – 4 months ago, during a nice stroll with my dog down 12th Ave...I noticed a new restaurant coming up next to Fairway. After a bit of research, I was thrilled to find out that finally there is a high end restaurant in Harlem about to open...that is there for no other reason than to cater to Harlemites. So...needless to say...when it opened, I went to check it out. Now just so you know, in my 20+ years living in NYC, I've been to many many high end restaurants...I've seen celebrity chefs and newbies, g... read more
Tasty food, entertaining bar scene, friendly and professional service – After nearly a dozen visits, the lovely two-story indoor/outdoor Hudson River Cafe continues to delight. I remain as impressed with the restaurant, the bar scene, and the staff as I was upon first coming. As for the food: While I have sampled and enjoyed a number of dishes there I am particularly fond of the barbeque shrimp, both of the paellas, and a great salad named after Iman, the Cafe's Uber charming and engaging manager. Every time I have visited t... read more
