History Established in 2007. Flat Rock's only general store, Peace's Grocery, located at the intersection of W. Blue Ridge Road and Hwy 225, closed in the 1980s after nearly 100 years. The closure left a void in the community. The building sat vacant for several years until Starr Teel and Virginia Spiegner, reopened the store in 1990. Virginia opened her store, The Wrinkled Egg, and Starr began baking in the back room of the store. The most awesome and authentic BBQ! Everything is delicious and the ambiance is perfect! The ribs stand alone- they are meaty, tender, so much flavor with a nice smokey crisp bark on the outside. The brisket is so tender and full of flavor. So many delicious homemade sides to choose from. Can't wait to go back and try the pulled BBQ!
The food was great! The waiting in line was very long. The owner was very accommodating. I loved The outdoor fireplace on a cold windy day. My main suggestion is to please figure out a way to shorten the wait.
We had a wonderful experience! All the food was amazing. Service was good and fast, despite it being very busy. The outside seating was beautiful and well maintained. The lady who checked on the tables (not a waitress since it wasn't that type of atmosphere) was so sweet and accommodating to my very young family that includes a newborn. Looking forward to many trips there! Totally worth our 50 min drive!
**UPDATE** They take credit cards now, hooray! And they started opening on Sundays this season which is awesome. The only thing left now is to find a way to stay open year round :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BBQ is the best I've had in North Carolina.
