The Houston Apartment Association does not advocate for tenants. In my experience, they appear to prioritize the interests of apartment complexes—particularly those that are dues-paying members—over those of individual renters. I filed a grievance expecting a fair process, but it became clear that their loyalty lies with property management. My concerns were dismissed without proper explanation. My brother, who is hospice, is in inhumane living conditions at the Blue Apartments on South Gessner. His apartment is Roach infested, mold, and flooding from kitchen sink. I have reached out to the Houston Health Depart, Houston Apartment Association and Adult Protective Service, and nobody, I mean NOBODY has been able to help me or don't care! One of the scariest thoughts I had after my divorce was how I was going to live in an apartment complex. It is good for an apartment complex to be beautiful and well designed but if the manager has no milk of human kindness residents will always chew bones amidst the milk. Houston being the fourth largest Metropolitan city in the US really needs to have an actual agency that will help tenants with their concerns and complaints. Whatever services this association provides it does not provide real assistance to tenants; you call and the phone is rarely answered. if you are able to talk with them, they have a minimum of five minutes and all they did when I called was tell me to fill out an online form which looks like it’s from when personal computers first came out.
