Great place if u have the right kind of hair – I really like Hoshi Coupe. The people are friendly, it's very low key, and the prices are great. However, if you don't have thin shiny hair, then it's hard to get a look that's good for you. The stylists are mainly Japanese, which means that they're good at Japanese-style haircuts. I'm Asian (female), but my hair is thicker. I keep on getting ultra-thinned out hair when I go, and it's hard to get a different style (I'm looking for traditional and conservative layers--relaly bori... read more

Editorial Review – The second, East Village location of this Japanese salon accommodates patrons with cuts, blow drys, and massage.

Please do not go here! – I used to love this place. My old stylist had left and i thought it would be ok to try someone else here. I asked the stylist not to thin my hair. He kept insisting. I kept saying no. I even stopped him once when he started to thin it. Towards the end he said, ok i'm going to thin it just a little bit. Well he thinned it to about a quarter of its previous thickness. I ended up with a really ratty 80s do. All i can come up with for why is that this man only knew how to do one kind of stylish cut for l... read more

I will go nowhere else – I have been going to Hoshi Coupe II (9th St. location) for years and have yet to find one thing wrong with it. I am not a chatty person though the staff are quite friendly if you feel like talking. The price is a bit high but I've paid more at some high-end salons that have totally ripped me off. The stylists here are truly artists. They take time with your hair and never rush things. And they always ask before proceeding. The consideration and professionalism are definitely worth the slightly above-... read more

The equation for the perfect salon – skilled staff + minimal atmosphere + razor edge style + a great head neck and shoulder massage with every cut - snotty attitudes - high prices - hype = a salon to definitely try, and one that i will always visit. some of the staff may not be as well versed in English, but they make up for it in style and skill. We don't have to chat and become BFF, just give me the great cuts that keep us coming back.

Comments on first visit – I recently went here for my first time. The decor and ambiance sure are nice and serene. And the price was certainly right. (I normally rotate my haircuts between two other stylists at different salons; they both charge in the range of $75-90). But in the end, the haircut I got was not that great. I've gotten better cuts at Supercuts. My hair (female) is normally styled very short and pixie-like, with little spikes here and there. I explained what I wanted to the stylist, but the cut ended up being ... read more

no massage for the ladies!? – ok, this place is great for asian hair. it's not a chop shop like some of the places in chinatown. the stylist name = suzu - she was an architect and very good with my hair. it's a bit more priceier 50$ on average for a WOMENS cut if your used to chinatown but it's worth it. i feel like a million bucks coming out of there; and like the title says, they only
