The Hippodrome Theatre is the centerpiece of theFrance-Merrick Performing Arts Center, holding all of the center's shows. Located just three blocks away from the University of Maryland, this performing arts theater is a true gem of the city. This Vaudeville theater was built in 1914 and designed by Thomas White Lamb, one of the most prominent theater architects of his time. Over the years the theater went through various transformations, from a movie theater to a performing arts venue that it is today.

It was a great time. The Hippodrome was clean and everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would go again.
Great performance ( Mama Mia). Not a fan of upper balcony seats, felt to tight.
My grown daughters and I enjoyed Mama Mia very much!! It was electric and uplifting. The music and costumes were wonderful as was the amazing cast. However, in the upper left balcony where we were seated during the Sunday matinee it was very upsetting to see other patrons were incredibly rude to a parent and her young child. The child wasn't crying, screaming, or making a scene other than simply asking questions & wanting more goldfish. I applaud her for wanting to bring culture into her child's life at a young age. A great venue that never ceases to amaze. The Mamma Mia performance was outstanding... cast was over the top with noteworthy performances too many to list. Well worth the cost of admission.
Absolutely beautiful theatre. My seat was in the upper balcony in the very last row and STILL had an amazing experience. Doesn't seem to be a bad seat the the theatre. Definitely has my highest recommendation and will see more shows there for sure!
