Beautiful settin, perfect service and exceptional, creative food...highly recommend
Very yummy onion soup :-) also tried baked n seasoned cauliflower. Very good to. E eryone else had sushi and liked it. Would definately go back.

This is my favorite restaurant in Hilo and I would usually give them a rating of a 4 or 5, but when I had lunch here today I was very disappointed. I decided to have a light lunch of a Cobb salad, but when it came it wasn't what I expected. The presentation looked great. They used very fresh baby romaine lettuce and cut it lengthwise and served it that way. They had a soft boiled egg they was breaded and then deep fried to perfection. What a great way to end our stay in Hilo. Great bar, excellent martinis and OMG food! Sorry we didn't discover this place sooner.
Hilo Bay Cafe is high on atmosphere, has a lovely staff. Mostly, the food is quite good. Don't make the mistake of arriving at shift change (late afternoon), leaving the grill unmanned for a few hours, thus if one wants a grilled fish on their salad or fish taco, it's a no go. Also, the french fries that are typically a draw, got burned in this shift gap. The crew didn't attempt to make up for a sub great meal.
