I am a new patient with Dr. Merrell. I was having issues with my right thumb joint. I was lucky enough to be accepted in a study of implanting synthetic cartilage into that thumb joint to relieve the pain and arthritis. I'm just a little over 3 months out from having the surgery and I feel absolutely wonderful. Dr. Merrell is a very caring surgeon who did an amazing surgery and I'm very thankful to have been able to experience an awesome outcome with him. I would highly recommend Dr. Merrell for your hand to shoulder issues.

I visited Dr Merrill for treatment of Duypetrens Contracture (primarily involving both ring fingers), which involved injection of Xiaflex (I think this is correct) followed 24 hours later by manipulation to break up the collagen buildup causing the ring fingers to contract. Dr Merrill has a very good bedside manner and his staff are very professional. On both the day of injection and the day of manipulation, I was seen almost as soon as I arrived. I am very satisfied with the results and would recommend Dr Merrill for any ha... read more

I just had my 6th surgery with Dr. Merrell, five in my hands and the last one in my shoulder due to a torn ligament. I currently live in Columbus and drove all the way to Indianapolis because of his expertise. He is very sweet and caring and his staff is very professional. Molly, his Physician Assistant is very knowledgeable and will also take very good care of you. This is an A+ team !!!

Dr. Merrell is a great surgeon and very sweet. He's done a lot of surgeries on me (6 at least) and taken very good care of me every time. He also has a friendly staff. If I ever have to have hand to shoulder surgery again, I wouldn't want anybody else.

This place is just down right terrible. My doctor was incredibly rude first of all. I had a cyst removed and it was back four months later after not even using my hand and I was told that was a very long time for the cyst to be gone (Obviously this makes no sense or why would I have even had the surgery.) Also I had another procedure done at the same time and that didn't work either. All the doctor said was, "Oh I guess that wasn't the problem then." The doctor then sent me to have an EMG and then it took the office two mont... read more

DR. HASTINGS HAS SAVED MY LEFT HAND ON TWO SEPERATE OCCASIONS. HE'S AN EXCELLENT / COMPETENT ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON HAND SPECIALIST. I'D HAVE NO PROBLEM OF DR. HILL HASTING'S WORKING ON ANY OF MY FAMILY MEMBER'S.

I did not have a good experience with Dr.Merrell. He is a specialist and I went to him for a wrist injury which he failed to diagnose. He told me I have arthritis in the wrist but otherwise it was fine. I lived with the pain and unable to use my left hand for 18 more months until another doctor told me I do, indeed, have an injury, probably a torn ligament which is causing the bones to rub (i.e. arthritis). If Dr.Merrell is a specialist, he cannot even spot an injury when it's right in front of him. I wasted so much time and... read more

I did not have a good experience here. I saw Dr.Merrell for a wrist injury and he dismissed me with simply having arthritis. Eighteen months later when I saw a rheumatologist, he said the wear-n-tear arthritis in my wrist is due to a torn ligament and the longer it goes on, the worse it’s going to get. Now I’m looking at surgery (elsewhere, of course) to repair the ligament and possible life-long damage to the cartilage in the wrist since it was not diagnosed correctly with Dr.Merrell at the get-go. I feel Merrell should hav... read more
