I went to Hicks & McCarthy for lunch this past Sunday. As soon as we entered the restaurant I saw the run down look of the entrance, along with the peeling ceiling. I didn't know if we were supposed to seat ourselves or if there was a hostess stand because nothing really stood out. There are two booths when you enter, one of them was FULL of plates of unfinished food and drinks. When someone finally greeted us, we sat in the other booth next to the dirty booth. Went for diner tonight around 7. Was closed. Website says it is open unti 930 on Friday. Is it still in business? Looks like it has been closed for business permanently.
Ordered the McCarthy Cristo, which was a monte cristo sandwich that was deep fried until it was burnt. Tasted like it contained a cup of cooking oil in one sandwich. Even the waitress tried to warn me by say that no one had ordered it for a long time. I would have sent it back but our brunch was interrupted by two employees having a huge, almost violent argument (lots of cussing where everyone could hear) and at that point I just wanted to get out of there. @[1154707316:Robin Lynn Barone] and I come here occasionally on Sundays for breakfast. Marcy makes the best Bloody Mary's ever. We come specifically for that!
This place used to be awesome, went there today and waited almost an hour for our food. And the waitress never came back so we didn't order dessert. And I had to search for her to get the check. The party at the next table had the same issue. Very sad because it was always such a five star place.
