Robert & Donna opened the Hickory Hollow in January 1984. Robert is from Williamston NC & Donna is from the Chesapeake Bay Area, Maryland and son Jarrett & wife Jenelle w/ their 3 kids are continuing the family tradition for many years to come. 2006 we were rated 3rd in the nation in the USA Today. We were here before the Interstate and Outlet Mall. This location used to be a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house. We opened w/ only 32 seats and our bathrooms were located outside. OK It's a funky little place, but the food and variety can't be beat. We went there after a funeral at the Gamble Mansion, and even though we live an hour away, we'll be returning soon. The fish and veggies I ordered were excellent. My family had both seafood and barbecue, and we were all delighted. The corn fritters were heavenly. These people are masters at southern cooking. The bathroom wasn't fancy, but it was fresh and adequate.
The place has excellent b-bque with equally excellent sides (over 20 choices) and corn fritters that are out of this world. This is a mom & pop place that is understaffed and has zero style (butterflies all over the place)....but if your patient, the food is worth it.
Best BBQ in Florida! Hickory Hollow, a homey family run 52-seat restaurant decorated with wreaths, butterflies and pig statuettes is ranked in USA Today's 10 best. Eighty percent of the patrons travel from outside of Manatee County to eat here.
