Since 1988 the Avalon Theatre houses the "In the Heart of the Beast - Puppet and Mask Theatre", and has come a long way since it was built in 1937. The theater showcases human emotions through puppets and elaborate costumes and make-up. The place can also be rented for private performances and events. Avalon has a capacity of 300, with viewing galleries and a separate box office.

Most generous and skilled performing group in town. Their performances are hilarious, moving, full of fun, and always ready to respond to the world.
I bought my 3 year old to Make Believe Neighborhood, my first time at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, and it was amazing. I know she and I will now attempt to build puppets together and I'm sure she learned even more tonight. Take your family here and become part of this community. We will be back often.
I love the puppetry and magic of In the Heart of the Beast. They are most notably known for The May Day Parade and Celebration which brings a diverse community of people higher to raise conaciousness and celebrate life. I have never been disappointed with a performance.
If someone asked me to think back on the sum total of 23 years I've lived in Minneapolis and identify when I felt the happiest; when I felt surrounded by beauty; and when felt a spirit of inclusion, diversity and community that represented "how I wish things could be all the time," I guarantee that almost all of the moments I'd list would be connected to Heart of the Beast. That is all. <3
Having seen more than a dozen shows I have been impressed with the quality of content and am very happy that these shows can be affordable for those of us who aren't of the wealthy variety. Also spectacular creativity and artistry revolving around their puppet and object theater adventures. Thank you and you certainly can count on my continued fandom and attendance. Cheers!
