Keep in mind that newly planted trees have the best chances of success when they are irrigated frequently after planting. It’s generally recommended that new trees be watered a minimum of twice weekly, with careful soaking of the root ball.

Even if you've received a drenching rain during a summer storm, remember it may not be enough to justify cutting back on irrigation. Before doing so, dig down a few inches to see how moist the soil really is.

Judicious planting will help your garden grow. If you have a vegetable garden, and you have a problem with rabbits invading it, include marigolds among the plantings as they discourage rabbits. There are other plants that discourage different types of pests.

Tool maintenance is important to successful gardening and lawn maintenance. Keep shears, shovels, and lawn mower blades sharp. Also, regular maintenance of your tools will extend their life.

When buying new plants at the nursery, it’s recommended that you look for leaves rather than flowers. When plants are flowering that early, they’re putting most of their energy into making more blooms and setting seed instead of into producing a sturdy root system for long term health.

The range and diversity of the cacti family are reflected in their differing root systems. Even the smallest cacti species have a large root system to absorb as much moisture as possible. These systems may run deep into the soil or remain superficial.

Blackhaw viburnum is a great choice for homeowners who want to add shrubs that offer gorgeous fall colors. This shrub has no thorns and yields white flowers in May, which become an edible fruit at harvest time. The plant creates fall colors through both its bluish-berries and colorful leaves, which change from a dark green to purple to reddish-bronze to crimson.

There are not many types of perennial vegetables. One example, though, is asparagus, which is not really at full production for as long as five years after it was planted, depending on the particular type. But it’s so delicious that it is well worth the patience.

Create a green garden by reducing chemical use in your yard, composting, and mulching and reducing turf grass. How you maintain your garden or landscape will have an important effect on the health of the soil, air, water, and habitat for native wildlife.
