This place has been on my list to visit since it opened, so I decided to take my fiance out for a birthday dinner. I have to admit I was a little apprehensive as I have not had much luck with area restaurants in the past. We made our appearance on a Monday and I could not believe there was an hour wait, but that was ok! We sat in the very comfortable hotel lobby as we looked over the menu. Wytheville now has a restaurant comparable to any fine dining establishments in the USA or elsewhere. I've dined at the Angus Barn in Raleigh, Occidental Restaurant in Washington, D.C., Tavern on the Green in NYC, the Palm in Charlotte, the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, the Williamsburg Inn, and restaurants in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, etc. Finally, I only need to drive up the street for a meal as good as any of these. When it comes to five-star dining, no one can beat Graze on Main, the restaurant and bar within the hotel. While I can’t say for sure, I’m pretty confident that the dishes offered at the George Wythe were comparable to the ones offered at Graze on Main. The bacon-wrapped meatloaf at $16 was an exquisite example of the dishes offering Southern flavor, as the original hotel menu declared to offer such as with the fried green tomatoes my wife had for an appetizer at $6.
