DELICIOUS!! i used to come to chinatown with my mom to do grocery shopping, and almost every time i come with her, i'd ask if we can come to golden gate bakery. like the other reviewers said, they are always super busy and there is always a line OUT THE DOOR just to get their dan tats. and i am NOT exagerating about the line. there is muni public transportation around chinatown, so since parking is such a difficult task, that comes in really handy. if you're ever in chinatown, i would defintely recommend coming here. you'll ... read more

Perfect egg custard! Golden Gate Bakery makes the best egg custard tarts, better than any I've ever had in Northern California. Everyone that's been to this bakery raves about them. If you're not into eggs or custard, try the pork buns, which are also impressive. Be prepared for a wait in a long line, but if you wait it out, you won't be disappointed. PROS: Tasty pastries, good price CONS: Crowded

SOOOOO good! This can easily be the best egg custard tart I've tried in the WORLD - including Hong Kong, China, and Singapore. Their custard tarts are so fresh and perfect -- crust is flaky and the custard is soft and hot (when you eat it as soon as you get it!). The long lines are well worth it! Their coconut tart is pretty good too. But if I had to choose it, it'd be the Egg Custard Tart, hands down!

Egg Custard Two words...Egg Custard! If you dare to brave the occasional long lines, you better get the egg custard. They run out of it often but opt to wait the 10-15 while they turn out a new batch. You won't be sorry that you waited.... And since you're there, try all their other pastries!!!

DAN TATS Golden Gate Bakery has got to have the best dan tats (custard cups) in the whole wide world! Well, maybe not the best in the whole world - maybe just within the Bay Area. Nevertheless, the dan tats are wonderful and baked daily. I am not the only one who believes this is true... Early in the morning their is already a line in front of the bakery! But, with relatively quick service, the line moves with speed. On top of dan tats, their is a selection of pasties - including moon cakes that is very appealing!

Delicious Chinese desserts If you are looking for delicious Chinese desserts then Golden Gate Bakery is the place to go. The store is located in San Franciscos busy Chinatown. Parking is difficult to find in this area and I would recommend going with a friend who can drive around in the car while you go in the store to buy your treats.

pastries If you are looking for a world class bakery, you shouldn't have to look anymore. Golden gate bakery offers a wide selection of pastries and breads that are just scrumptous. If you been here, you know that their business is so hot they always have a line out the door and very crowded. Their custard tarts are extremely good and the coconut lemon roll is delicious. Just writing about them is no comparison to what you see and taste at this bakery.
