Of course, they deserve ZERO stars for being so deceitful. I purchased my 2013 Veloster brand new from this dealership. I've never had any problems with the car until 11/2019. I was leaving one of the area hospitals at about 3am and I released my emergency brake but my rear wheel wouldn't move - forward or reverse. The other wheels moved and drug the rear passenger wheel, but the brake wouldn't release. I figured it was frozen. I've driven manual transmissions most of my car driving life and that has happened once or twice in the past. But, when I went back later that morning, it was still stuck. I had it towed to Glenbrook Hyundai only because one of the guys at the hospital suggested it could be the transmission (which would be under warranty). But, when the dealership service center got to the car, the brake had released. Justin, the service manager, said they would still do a complete inspection of the car. He called back saying my clutch needed replaced. I questioned that because it didn't sound like something that would cause my original complaint. But, Justin insisted it could. So, it's already there, against my better judgement I let them do the repair. Justin also listed over $1000 of other repairs I should have done, including my serpentine belt, spark plugs, flush coolant, front/rt tie rod. When I told him I didn't have $2000 (the clutch was $1000 repair) to spend, he said if anything the tie rod was a safety issue, so I told him to go ahead with that along with the clutch. He also suggested the rear brake pads, but I already had those purchased and was going to do it later that weekend. He tried to get me to have my other tie rod replaced, but I asked if it needed to be replaced and he said "no, there's nothing wrong with it". I asked him why I would do that and he said "You never know, in a couple weeks it could go bad". I told him it's been 6 years and there's nothing wrong with it, but he thinks it might go bad in a couple weeks. Such a lie!
I picked the car up and, really, Justin is pretty condescending. I asked him how the clutch would cause my tire not to move and he couldn't even give me an answer and just shrugged and said, "I don't know, you know, these things just happen". How does a service manager not know this kind of stuff?
The next morning, I release my emergency brake in my driveway and my rear/rt wheel won't move AGAIN. Now, it's important to know that the first time it happened was a couple days before when I had it towed in, and this was now the 2nd time. But, on my repair paperwork, Justin put "intermittent", as if it had occurred a few times before this recent time. That was a lie. It never happened before. Anyway, I'm pretty mad that I just paid a lot of money and the problem wasn't resolved. Before calling to have it towed back to Glenbrook Hyundai, I call my usual mechanic to discuss it. They actually told me that my clutch was not very likely the cause of my original problem, and that was clear since it now happened again on a very cold morning. My usual mechanic suggested that with all the dirt and debris and moisture that gets up in there, that stuff was frozen and my caliper stuck. But, he said to make Glenbrook Hyundai do their job and fix my problem since they should've done it in the first place. So, I had it towed back to Hyundai and called Justin. He IMMEDIATELY tried to blame it on me because he knew we were going to change out my brake pads and might've done something wrong. But, we hadn't done that yet. Then, after they inspected it, he then tried to blame it on me for NOT replacing the brake pads yet and tried to use some line that the brake pad worked itself loose and got stuck in the caliper. But, of course, they didn't notice that when they claimed to do a "full inspection" of my car 2 days before and couldn't produce anything to prove the brake pad was stuck anywhere it shouldn't have been. He's a snake. Since the brake pads were already in the car and it was there, they replaced them for me at a slightly discounted price. While they had it, I called around to several other mechanics and ALL of them said it's highly unlikely that my clutch caused one wheel to not move. They all, without me suggesting it, said it was probably the caliper needing cleaned out.
Here's where it gets even better. After I picked up from Glenbrook (Justin and I even got into it over the phone), I took it to my usual mechanic to have them inspect everything because now I don't believe a word Glenbrook Hyundai told me. They found that the clutch was replaced. But, they also found a GLARING break in my front/rt coil spring on my strut - the same location my tie rod that needed replaced. Glenbrook Hyundai never even mentioned that. My usual mechanic said it was impossible to miss and was a very dangerous risk. Next, they said my serpentine belt doesn't need replaced, neither do my spark plugs because they did that the year before, and my coolant didn't need flushed because that also was done the year before. I knew those two last things were just done, but just had them confirm the date they did them. So, again, Justin lied about what needed to be done on my car. So, of course, I believe nothing that came out of that guy's mouth during this entire ordeal.
Glenbrook Hyundai customer service called me to ask about the repair and I told them how incredibly disappointed I am with their lying to me. She said she'd get the general manager to call me back. Never called me back. I called in to speak with him, and he wasn't available and again he never called me back. Oh, but their sales staff has called me to try and sell me a new car. And, what's even sadder is, their sales staff uses this lame lie that they'll put you in a new Hyundai, same model or better, at a better payments than my current car. I talked to them a few years back when they called and found out it's a huge lie. Told them to never call me again, and here they are after jerking me over on a repair, thinking I'll give them any more of my money by using the same lie again. Honestly, I will NEVER drive another Hyundai. I'm writing to their American headquarters with all these details.
I wouldn't tell anyone to not buy a car from them because just about all dealerships are the same. But, don't take your car to them for service. This was the most incredibly shiesty experience I've ever had. I really need to go talk to an attorney or something.
