Suburbanites and young couples flock to this Kenmore Square spot for impeccable service and top-level sushi. Kimono-clad, bilingual waitresses greet diners with a hot towel and proceed to describe the numerous Japanese delicacies on the lengthy, intricate menu. Rounding out the ambience is the bright sushi bar (patrolled by up to four master dicers and rollers) and a killer sake bar that features 20 varieties.- by Contributor at Citysearch.com

Complete dissatisfaction with mediocre sushi/poor service. – I went here with a group of friends after hearing several high recommendations from friends and clients, only to find mediocre service and food. The waitress was very unaccomodating to our group, and of the ten plates ordered, three had to be sent back because they weren't even correct! What made the experience even more unenjoyable was that the waitress did not hesitate to shove her elbows and reach over us and in front of our faces to refill our water glasses, wh... read more
Brookline's outpost of the popular Chinatown sushi emporium delivers equally satisfying Japanese treats in roomier, comfier environs. – The Scene Suburbanites and young couples flock to this Kenmore Square spot for impeccable service and top-level sushi. Has seriously gone downhill from its glory days. If you know your sushi, stay away! – What a shame!! This used to be one of the best sushi places in town and I have eaten here many times over the past 4 years. But twice in the last 3 weeks I have been incredibly disappointed with the quality of the sushi this place is serving. The first time was a little more than 2 weeks ago. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered some sashimi, but what I got was of less than average quality and quite disappointed. Two weeks later, a friend and... read more
Best in Boston – This is one of my favorite sushi spots in the whole city (the only one I recommend is Oishii in Brookline). I've eaten at many sushi spots throughout the country and Ginza is always fresh and tops for Boston (which doesn't have many sushi spots). My standard to compare sushi are Japanese sushi spots on the West Coast (LA or SF) which are excellent. The atmosphere is good and besides sushi, Ginza has the best teriyaki and tempura in the city. The fish is very fresh and although the rolls aren't the most innov... read more
Overrated – I often hear rave reviews about how good Ginza is, and how great the sushi is. Myself, I find it highly overrated. The sushi quality is good, but not great considering how expensive it is. And it is expensive, even for sushi. The presentation of the food is excellent, the decor and ambience very nice. The service is courteous, but not great. It's usually slow (even accounting for how busy it is) and not very on the ball. The times I've gone I've left the place feeling unfulfilled, and slightly ripped off. The pla... read more
Excellent food Located just outside of Boston at St. Mary's Street. Great Japansese food, and surprisingly authentic, not Americanized. Traditional Japanese atmosphere, including kimono-clad waitresses. Best to park on side streets which is free for up to two hours.
Good Japanese food This tiny little restaurant offers a big selection of food and booze. The food is genuine Japanese, and it's quite tasty. This non seafood-eating patron was quite happy with edamame and chicken. It's a boisterous place. If you like genuine Japanese food, this is a good place to go. The prices are fair to low.
One of the best Japanese Restaurants – Ginza in Brookline is one of the better Japanese/ Sushi restaurants in Greater Boston. The food and service are great. It's a good place to experiment with different sushi and even Japanese food but the popular stuff is just as good. The only con, is that Friday and Saturday night are busy so it is best to get a reservation or go early.
too expensive for merely good sushi – At Ginza's prices I would've expected super fresh sushi. The sushi and its preparation are good but not great and do not merit the prices Ginza charges. My husband and I were seated in the rear on our last visit facing the busy kitchen entrance and had to see wait staff noisily go in and out. Oishii has comparable prices but much bigger and better portions.
Ginza Japanese Restaurant has a 4.1 star rating with 27 reviews.
