About this business

The space was formerly a small country store for over 90 years after which it was taken over in 1981 and converted into a barbecue joint. Since then, they have been a popular joint offering slow-cooked, hickory-smoked ribs and barbecue, prepared like the old-times in Memphis-style. In addition to meat dishes they also offer delicious sides like deviled eggs and potato salad, pig sticks to name a few. End you meals in true Southern-style with a banana pudding, a homemade delicacy very tasty. The place is simple and has enough... read more

Whenever I come back to Memphis to visit family, I take my mother there to eat! I think it's the best in the Memphis area! And service was great!

Went on a Saturday Night around 4:30. A little busy, but not too bad. Food was Great & the Service was Good. They were busy. The place is small & getting to the restrooms is almost impossible, other than that, everything else was good. I think it's better to Get it to GO!!! We will go back & do it again 💜❤️

The HoleInTheWall atmosphere is nostalgic. The great service, (Lisa) couldn't have been better. She was very apologetic the Baked Potatoes were too old to serve (from lunch) and/or too early (not done) for the evening crowd. My husband had the half chicken. He remembered he ordered this dish the last time we visited, one of the best menu items. Although, I was not impressed with the slaw or the baked beans. The BBQ Nachos were "the BOMB" according to Two of my boys. I shared the "Ribs for 2" with my third son and still had l... read more

I love the BBQ at The Commissary and I also LOVE the coconut cake. I went there for lunch today with my niece who was visiting from Meridian and was very disappointed that they did not have coconut cake. I am not sure if they were out of it or no longer serving it. As much as I love the food there, I will not be back if they are taking coconut cake off the menu.

Very good. My wife and I split the Boss Hogg so we could try all the meats. She like the chicken and pork, worth both of us saying the pork was the best we've eaten. The ribs were a little dry and tough but tasty. Sausage was good. Would recommend. Banana pudding was great.

We came on a Saturday night at 6:30pm, waited about an hour to be seated but it was worth every minute! Our server was efficient and treated us like family. We had the cheese plate appetizer and everything on it was amazing, especially the honey mustard they put with it. The ribs are the best I've ever had in my life. My daughter got the BBQ nachos and for <$10, it could have fed 3 people. Everything including the cole slaw and sweet tea were PERFECT. We will come back here every time we are in Memphis, no question. This pla... read more

The best BBQ sandwich in the USA. I started enjoying this BBQ in 1975, and it's still outstanding. I get the jumbo sandwich, chopped, with coleslaw and hot BBQ sauce. It's the best. I also love the beans, potato salad, BBQ nachos, deviled eggs, and the lemon ice box pie! The banana pudding is also very good. Enjoy.

Business response:

Thank you very much!
