In 1934, Denver's most notorious family, the Smalldones opened up an eatery in the North Side to become the heart of both Italian cuisine and an illicit operation. While drawing the neighborhood's attention to their famous pasta, they also drew the attention from police as Denver's only mafia operated in the basement. It's not quite the hoodlum hangout as it used to be as the Smalldone Empire has fallen and Denver's mayor bought Gaetano's, but the food hasn't changed and Chauncy Smalldone still stops by for lunch. I really wish I could give this place a 5 star! The food was beyond excellent. But for a place like this the service was horrible. Not sure who out waitress was, she didn't state her name ! This was after she kept passing our table a dozen times and not even acknowledging that we were sitting there ! Kind of irritating on that part! I wi... read more
The food was everything it was cracked up to be. Great atmosphere and the bartender makes a wicked Manhattan.
I like it a lot! I would like to work for these people!
The food was amazing. The restaurant was very busy and loud. I’d recommend having a reservation.
I loved this place. The food was the best Italian I have had at a restaurant in Denver. Freindly wait staff, prompt service. Went on a night when they had a Sinatra singer, was out of this world. 5 star!!
It had the most amazing food and you felt like you went back in time with the mobsters!
I had the eggplant and my date went for the mushroom ravioli. Eggplant was fried perfectly and the housemade ravioli was incredible. Seriously, the sauce they use for the mushroom ravioli was so so so so wonderful. Would kill for the recipe. Only weird thing was the tiramisu used readywhip for the plating. It was a housemade desert with handmade cream and to use readywhip on the plate was a blunder. Will certainly be coming back.
