Frying Pan

4.3

About this business

Visitors can experience the mysteries of being aboard a sunken boat while also enjoying fresh seafood onboard the Frying Pan. The Frying Pan was a former lightship, but eventually fell into disrepair and sunk due to a broken engine. It was bought by its current owners and repaired in the 1980s and now serves as a popular bar and grill. However, the ship still retains its sunken look in the lower levels in order to acknowledge the Frying Pan's long history.

When I lived in New York I tried to get down here as much as possible during the summer. Anytime anybody comes to visit New York I tell them to go here, if it’s during the warmer months. Walking around on the old ships is great but the view is amazing. Hanging out with friends having a beer eating and watching the ships go up and down the Hudson is a priceless experience.

This is such a nice place to go by the water, eat or have a drink. Listen to music or dance, the band was great. They have side seats where to can eat or just sit and talk or enjoy the view. They also have a top deck where the views have to be amazing. This is a place where you order food at the bar. It’s not a place where you sit and then you order your food but it’s a happy and fun place to go with friends or family.

I discovered The Frying Pan when it was anchored in its original location years ago and have been a regular customer ever since. Stepping on board the gently rocking barge is like setting sail on your own private cruise. The view of the city is quite impressive and the view across the river (especially during a glorious sunset) is spectacular. Watching the river traffic that ranges from kayaks to huge cruise ships pass by is pure entertainment. The food is delicious and the staff are always terrific. What are you waiting for... read more
