Run by the celebrated Scotto family, Fresco by Scotto is famous as much for its friendly service as for its Italian fare. Located in the Midtown neighborhood, it brings to New York the authentic flavors of Italian home-cooked food. Their menu consists of exquisite delicacies like Spaghetti Alla Chitarra, Shrimp Tagliolini and their special Fresco Risotto. Their wine list, compiled by their very own Anthony Scotto Jr., is an award winning collection, so do try a glass.

Excellent food & service – I was a bit learly based on some things I had read, but my client wanted italian food & the location was perfect. The staff was very friendly & inviting, no tsnooby at all, which had been mentioned. I had some trouble with the wine list, as wines I am familar with were not there, so I had for some help, hoping that they would not try & steer me towards the $ 100 & up wines...not at all, actually, they sold us on one of the less expensive cabs & it was wonderful. the food was fabulous!! We shared th... read more
Good food, Good service = high prices – My mother decided we should eat here after seeing the Scotto's on one of the morning shows. We made reservations for Saturday night at 7. We actually arrived a bit before 7 and were seated upon arrival. The restaurant was not too full and we were seated at a neat table almost in the middle of the dining room. Our party of 4 consisted of two 11 year old children. They did not have a childrens menu, but the waiter did assure us that the servings would not be huge. And they weren't. The s... read more
Good Lunch Spot – The restaurant is usually packed so this is a good place to grab lunch. The opposite of serene, Fresco is bustling so if you're looking for relaxing, go elsewhere. However, thier prices are great given the portion size and quality (also given midtown lunch prices) and it's a great spot. The only upside to the bustling is that even though it looks really full, turnover is so quick that finding a seat shouldn't be a problem. Try the lasagna, it's delish.
price switching de rigueur at fresco – As a New Yorker who lived in Italy for 4 years, I was expecting good food and excellent service, as indicated by the previous reviews. What I got was nasty attitude and price switching, so please be aware. My friend and I entered the restaurant late Thursday evening. We told the waiter that we had already eaten but wanted something light. We both ordered appetizers and the waiter asked, "Do you want this as your entree?" I explained (again) that we had already eaten but were still a lit... read more
Average Italian – If you are a NY native there are many other fine Tuscan restaurants with better food and service for the money. We arrived on time for our reservations, to be left to wait while a table actually opened. While waiting at the small bar for a table to open, not one of the multiple bartenders offered any service. Once seated the service was fine and the pasta dishes were good. They have a decent wine list that is heavily marked-up. While not a bad meal over all, the restaurant has no atmosphere and the laissez-... read more
Not impressed... – Went here on Fri night w/my aunt, uncle and their 2 teenage boys. We had 6pm reservations. Hostess was extremely polite at the reception area. Our table was against the wall w/2 seated on chairs and 3 of us on the bench seat. Luckily my one cousin is only 13 and skinny otherwise it would have been a tight squeeze for 3 adults on the bench side. Who seats 5 at a table really meant for 4??? FYI the entire place has a cramped type style seating wise. Our waiter had the personality of a wet mop. Practically ha... read more
Great food, but really overpriced – I walked by this place with my girlfriend and the food looked good. And it was. I thoroughly enjoyed my well-portioned meal, although I don't really remember much about it other than that it was a pasta dish. What I do remember was that it was good, but it was on par with a lot of other Italian restaurants in the city that serve the same food at prices roughly 35% cheaper. I was later told that the place is run by a chef that gets invited to the Today show a lot. So maybe that's what you'r... read more
I love good food, therefore will NOT EAT here again. – I ordered the simple fresh spaghetti with marinara. It lacked any flavor or originality. It was sweet and boring, the pasta gummy. My sister ordered the grilled shrimp over salad - yawn. Nothing was at the very least good, no less special - and we do not care about price, we just want yummy food. I will never eat here again. I only took this opportunity to review because I cannot believe how awful the food was. This is a genuine, grudge free review, as service and all el... read more
Perfect Power Lunches – I love this place. It's a perfect venue for business lunches: the southern Italian fare is very good (albeit not incredible), the service is friendly and the restaurant is always crammed with various captains of industry and media types. I particularly enjoyed the flat bread salad.
