Run by the celebrated Scotto family, Fresco by Scotto is famous as much for its friendly service as for its Italian fare. Located in the Midtown neighborhood, it brings to New York the authentic flavors of Italian home-cooked food. Their menu consists of exquisite delicacies like Spaghetti Alla Chitarra, Shrimp Tagliolini and their special Fresco Risotto. Their wine list, compiled by their very own Anthony Scotto Jr., is an award winning collection, so do try a glass.

Great food, friendly staff, fun atmosphere – The pasta is fantastic, the special pizzas are scrumptious and the bolognese sauce is to die for. The place is loud, but a lot of fun and a place to watch people. The staff always goes the extra mile to ensure that it's a perfect evening.
Don't go to Fresco – Waste of money, BAD food. Under-cooked shrimp, fatty lamb, jarred sauce, and a frozen solid ball of tasteless ice milk they call "tiramisu gelato" for desert. Mixed drinks made incorrectly and with little to no alcohol in them. Four dollar breadsticks. Tourist trap.
Over ambitous glop strictly for the tourists – Glorified Pizzeria food at top dollar prices, the menu is over ambitious some of the food was so heavy we could not eat it, and good calamari can be had almost anywhere at half the price- don't bother it is for the tourists! 12/08
Fresco- What a Disappointment. – We arrived on time for an 8pm reservation. It was for a party of two. We were told we could have an immediate table in the bar or wait 10 or 15 minutes for a table in the main dining room. We elected the later and at 8:30pm, I asked Mrs Scotto how much longer. She replied table #13 was just paying and it should not be too much longer. Forty-five minutes after our reservation, we were seated at a table. Surprisingly, we were NEVER offered a cocktail for our troubles. Our waiter arrived and did... read more
Horrible service – I recently had a business lunch at Fresco. The food was good but I was extremely disappointed by the quality of service. The waiter (Vinnie) had the nerve to approach my colleague and I not more than 5 minutes after we paid our check and in a condescending way "informed" us that there was a second seating. Our entire lunch was not even an hour and already they were ushering us out the door. I was so angry that when I got back to the office, I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. I was t... read more
Excellent food & service – I was a bit learly based on some things I had read, but my client wanted italian food & the location was perfect. The staff was very friendly & inviting, no tsnooby at all, which had been mentioned. I had some trouble with the wine list, as wines I am familar with were not there, so I had for some help, hoping that they would not try & steer me towards the $ 100 & up wines...not at all, actually, they sold us on one of the less expensive cabs & it was wonderful. the food was fabulous!! We shared th... read more
Good food, Good service = high prices – My mother decided we should eat here after seeing the Scotto's on one of the morning shows. We made reservations for Saturday night at 7. We actually arrived a bit before 7 and were seated upon arrival. The restaurant was not too full and we were seated at a neat table almost in the middle of the dining room. Our party of 4 consisted of two 11 year old children. They did not have a childrens menu, but the waiter did assure us that the servings would not be huge. And they weren't. The s... read more
Good Lunch Spot – The restaurant is usually packed so this is a good place to grab lunch. The opposite of serene, Fresco is bustling so if you're looking for relaxing, go elsewhere. However, thier prices are great given the portion size and quality (also given midtown lunch prices) and it's a great spot. The only upside to the bustling is that even though it looks really full, turnover is so quick that finding a seat shouldn't be a problem. Try the lasagna, it's delish.
price switching de rigueur at fresco – As a New Yorker who lived in Italy for 4 years, I was expecting good food and excellent service, as indicated by the previous reviews. What I got was nasty attitude and price switching, so please be aware. My friend and I entered the restaurant late Thursday evening. We told the waiter that we had already eaten but wanted something light. We both ordered appetizers and the waiter asked, "Do you want this as your entree?" I explained (again) that we had already eaten but were still a lit... read more
