Great spot - some things could be better – Love the mansion and the ambiance, but the dining room is so quiet that you can follow the other conversations going on. Stay away from the lamb kebab, I guess, lamb should be eaten as chops. Limited menu and few people during the week.
a big letdown – After going here for drinks one night, the bartender recommended their excellent brunch. We made reservations, but had to wait 15 minutes for anyone to show up to seat us. Glasses were dirty (lipstick marks) and when one of my party asked for a mimosa, he was brought a glass of champagne and a glass of orange juice to mix himself. Food was basically reheated.
Be Prepared... – We went here for a special evening and felt that I could have had more fun in a card board box. When you walk thru the front door around 7pm be prepared to be packed in a small hallway with waiters and waiteress' running with food trays. The menu was appealing, but I was not to happy to find out they ran out of quite a few items that compliment your meal, ie: Brocolli, asparagus and others. The room we were sat in was small and you could barely move. The ambieance made up for the size.
historic, tasteful, and romantic – The atmosphere was wonderful. This historic mansion offers many rooms to choose from, each with it's own fireplace and elegant decore. The tables are arranged carefully as to not seem crowded and to provide an intimate dining experience. Although a bit limited, the menu was wonderful (especially their daily features), including a nearly exhaustive wine list.
GREAT SERVICE – I have visited Forepaugh's three times in the past couple of months. Each time our service has been prompt, friendly, and they had great knowledge of the menu. We loved our dinner and if you enjoy "french Onion Soup" , it is the best around.
Wow! That's all I can say is, Wow! – This retaurant was superb. I haven't had such a great meal in ages, everything we ate kept getting better and better as we went on. The atmosphere was very inviting and sensually romantic with a view overlooking downtown St. Paul. The service was just right; not too pushy and not unattentive in the least. All in all I would say that this is the place to go for a nice evening with a sweet heart.
A walk back in time.. – Dining at Forepaugh's is indeed something all Twin City folk should try. The food is adventurous, as well as delicious! I never would have thought to put bananas with fish, but ooooh it was so good! An excellent place for an intimate, romantic date. Two thumbs up!
A Must!!!! – Fantastic place to see a liitle bit of history. Food and service was fantastic. Very romantic. I would of liked to of had some background music. You could hear everyones conversations. We will be back!
Excellent atmosphere for a special occasion. Wonderful food and service.
