great martini selection – i talked to the owner/chef, and here are a few more things he'd like to make clear: 1 they are now open monday & tuesday 2 they just got the summer menu! 3 they fired the guy that was helping to cook the food...good, or bad-you decide. just wanted to clear that with you.

no comparison – Living in north Portland, we have a lot of brunch options, but none compare to the lovely Equinox. The food is always innovative and delicious, the service friendly and attentive and the court yard is a beautiful little oasis in the middle of bustling Mississippi. I discovered this gem not long after they opened two years ago and have made it my regular weekend breakfast destination.I have enjoyed the variety of seasonal menu changes and the incorporation of local ingredients as well as the staples of orange-... read more

Alfresco dining and world cuisine spice up this hip neighborhood restaurant. – In Short Set back from the street, Equinox's front yard is one of the largest patios in town. The bright jewel tones that grace its walls and outdoor umbrellas create an atmosphere perfect for casual, laid-back dining. The full bar provides an attractive option for post-work imbibing. Entrees include grilled flatiron steak edged with a zesty habanero-chili rub, paired with a creamy sweet potato mash. There are seasonal specials listed on the ever-... read more

bummer. – ok. while the out door seating is nice, everything else went wrong. First they switched waitresses mid stream. Then it took 45 minutes to recieve our order and when we did it was luke warm (not a good tempeture for eggs). We asked for no onions in the scramble and there were onions. The menu said that the scamble came with bacon but there was no bacon. the portion was TINY compared to the price. the potatos were soggy. No one checked on us between our meal and the bill. nope. not going back there again.

VERY NICE – In an out of the way location (that had some less-than-high-income neighbhorhoods nearby - keep in mind I do not live in portland but austin texas so ya'll probably know where the good and bad neighborhoods are in portland; i definitely felt okay parking near the restaurant though), but it was HIGHLY tastey food. Very nice and not expensive really for what you get. The wine selections need work though as the wines by the glass were more or less not good! The waitstaff seemed a little stretched thin but did a nice... read more

I got charcoal in my food – The first time I went the ambiance was charming, the menu was fabulous, good coffee, etc. I looked forward to my breakfast. It then got worse. I got my food, an omelet with caramelized onions. I was very happy at first, then I saw a mysterious, flat, black thing in the onions, about the diameter of a golf ball. I took it out and, having worked in restaurants for years, recognized what it was. It was that hard layering of charcoal that collects on the sides of restaurant grills and pans. You know, ... read more

User review by dmarshak – This is one of the most innovative fun restuarants in the City. The menu changes with the seasons and is always very excellent.

Top Notch Breakfast! – My Husband and I go in quite often for breakfast. Never a bad experience. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but to be expected as they get slammed in the morning. There is always room at the beverage bar if you want more one on one attention. Try the bacon! The ingredients they use are very fresh and worth every penny. Unlike some of the other posters, we've never noticed any sort of "skimping" during our dining experience here. The portions are normal sized...not super-sized, which is nice.

Average food, really overpriced – I've been to Equinox three times in the last year. Our last dinner was for New Year's Eve 06 and I'm afraid that is the last time we'll visit this place. I ordered a vegetarian dish that was described as a torte, but what I got was a puff pastry filled with very little and was covered with too-sweet berries. Felt like I was eating dessert. Our server was inattentive and we felt very rushed to get "in and out". On our previous visits we had similar experiences with average food all very overp... read more
