Top Notch Breakfast! – My Husband and I go in quite often for breakfast. Never a bad experience. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but to be expected as they get slammed in the morning. There is always room at the beverage bar if you want more one on one attention. Try the bacon! The ingredients they use are very fresh and worth every penny. Unlike some of the other posters, we've never noticed any sort of "skimping" during our dining experience here. The portions are normal sized...not super-sized, which is nice.
Average food, really overpriced – I've been to Equinox three times in the last year. Our last dinner was for New Year's Eve 06 and I'm afraid that is the last time we'll visit this place. I ordered a vegetarian dish that was described as a torte, but what I got was a puff pastry filled with very little and was covered with too-sweet berries. Felt like I was eating dessert. Our server was inattentive and we felt very rushed to get "in and out". On our previous visits we had similar experiences with average food all very overp... read more
Bravo Equinox! – Thanks for another great meal. The food was devine, the cocktails to die for, the service was so friendly and attentive, and the ambiance...fantastico, as usual.
Wow! – Last night I had the best meal of my life at Equinox. I am still dreaming of those mushroom wontons with the lemon verbena dip, and the spinach salad with warm bacon and chevre cheese, and that NY steak with gorgonzola mashed potatoes. . . I was in heaven. Come to find out the the owner and chef trained at Maxims in Paris, and was Hough Hefners private chef. I had no idea that the chef here had these kind of credentials. If you haven't tried it yet- you have to. What a great find in North Portland.
1st time: great! 2nd time: huge disappointment! – I first went to Equinox last April. The food was excellent, relatively cheap and I received huge portions of the salad and main dish (Bo Han). I was very impressed! The food was almost overflowing from the large serving bowls. I had been wanting to go back and finally made it back last night. VERY disappointing. Prices had increased by 30-50% on the dishes I'd ordered previously -- I got the Bo Han again, which tasted blander and, for $3 more than a year ago, I received about... read more
SO glad we came! – My husband and I celebrated our 5th Anniversary here over the Labor Day weekend and were treated magnificently! I had sprained my ankle recently and the staff was so gracious and sympathetic, letting me move tables so I could put my foot up. I have never had better appetizers at a restaurant and was surprised by unique and delicious cocktails. The desserts were wonderful - especially the flourless chocolate cake. We loved the ambience, romantic, but low key. Kudos to our attentive servers Trisha and Robbie... read more
I have never been treated worse in a restuarant – First off, I really like the breakfast here. However, after my last trip I will never be back. The two of us were greeted by the hostess and sat. After about 10 minutes and no server, I decided to get up and pour two glasses of water. I then proceeded up to the bar to ask politely for two coffees. The bartender snarled "What" and i grimmaced "ah, two cups of coffee please" "yeah, your server will get it for you". I sat down and tried to brush it off. However, i looked back an... read more
Too Much for Too little – It could just be that I don't poses the palate to truly appreciate what was placed in front of me... My pocket book sure didn't like it much. I had to have my meal translated. Why can't we simply call a steak by its rightful name? Or at least use parenthetical notes for us simple folks who just want to navigate the menu. The meal was well prepared but the portions were as meager as the price was inflated. The atmosphere was fun but memories of signing the bill keep me reluctant to give it another sh... read more
My favorite restaurant – This is my first restaurant review ever - mainly because I'm too lazy to write about the places I love. But Equinox moved me to write. I've been here several times since they've opened, taken friends and visiting relatives, and have never been disappointed. I love this place. I can always find a great vegetarian dish (lots to choose from, which means I can go back and get something different each time). Their sweet potato gnocchi is yuuuuuummy! And the Mississippi mudcat dessert is worth the sin of g... read more
