Dr Acholonu was great. He was straight forward about what to expect and what he expected me to do after the surgery. He also has time to answer any questions. His staff was extremely helpful, especially Ali. I would definitely recommend Dr Acholonu to anyone who is looking to have weight loss surgery.
I had my surgery on 7/23 and I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon.. From my very first appointment with him, I knew he was the right Doctor for me.. His professionalism and bedside manner is amazing and he goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable, he takes the time to explain everything and it doesn't matter how many questions you have, he makes the time to answer.. He has given me a better quality of life and for that, I am forever grateful... Thank You Dr. Acholonu!
I recently had to have an emergency surgery to remove my appendix. I had the pleasure of Dr. Acholonu being the surgeon at Virtua. He tries to make you laugh during a difficult and nerve wrecking time and he succeeds. Great bed side manner and great patient care in general. I had no questions when leaving the hospital, as he was very thorough in his explanations as to what to expect the following weeks.
Dr. Acholonu is amazing. He did a wonderful job performing my surgery. He has answered all my calls after my surgery no matter what time of day. I would highly recommend him to everyone. Words can not expressive how good of a job he has done on me. His staff is right on point when you have questions as well. I will definitely use Dr. Acholonu again.
Dr Acholonu is all that every patient deserves to have treat them. My background is a healthcare professional of 45 years. His bedside manner, professionalism and just plain personality is impeccable. I recently had Gastric Sleeve surgery under his service and would be glad to refer his services for anyone looking for Bariatric surgery. He spends adequate time during his visits with you and always answered any questions or concerns.
I have worked in healthcare as well as had my fair share of personal doctor appointments and I must say that Dr. Acholonu is the most caring, considerate and professional I have come in contact with. He genuinely CARES about each and every patient. His “team” is efficient and takes all the stress out of such a life changing procedure. I learned so much from the amazing team at Virtua. For the first time, I feel properly educated and in control of my body and how it has changed. I was a referral!
Great doctor all around. He really wants what's best for you and he shows it in all of his visits. Always ready to answer questions even if you think they are stupid. I personally have high anxiety and throught my experience he has always made my anxiety go away and I would feel safe and calm. Great bed side manner, great personality and easy to get along with and easy to speak to. Couldn't have asked for a better doctor!

I recently had a large splenic cyst unroofed with laparoscopy. From my consultation onward, Dr. Acholonu patiently explained things in a straightforward way, but with a side of infectious humour. He instantly puts you at ease. Before surgery too! Don't let the fact that he specializes in bariatric surgery put you off. If you are looking for a general surgeon who is EXTREMELY down to earth, compassionate and knowledgeable, Dr. A will have your back. He truly wishes the best for his patients.
