I read some reviews saying that Eldredges was slow and thought to myself "It can't be that bad". Actually, it was worse. I took my push mower in to be sharpened at the beginning of June and was told it would be 1 week. 9 weeks later (that's all of June and July) they called and told me it was done. Unfortunately when I went to pick it up it had not been sharpened. The owner said things like "I'm sorry, I don't know why they did everyone else's and not yours." My lawn mower was not running right. A friend of mine told me about a little known lawn mower shop called Eldredges. I took my mower in and a service man took a look at it, told me what was wrong and showed me what I could do in the future to prevent it from happening again. He also said that 95% of the time a spark plug is not the problem and that old gas is the most common problem. No adjustment or new gas will fix it. Today I went in and had a serviceman look at a small tiller I couldn't get to work. He pulled the cord a few times, told me it was the carburetor, and said he'd charge me $60-$70 to fix it. I went home, googled around a little, and found that there's a carb adjustment I could make, as well as removing the spark plug in case the engine was flooded. 10 minutes later the tiller was working. Maintain that mower – This tiny neighborhood shop sells mowers and other lawn equipment, but its best deals are in the mower-maintenance department. When I bought my house, I inherited one of those old push mowers. It was all rusted and worn from years of neglect. So I pushed it over to Eldredges' and they sharpened the blades and oiled it so it worked like new. It's a friendly neighborhood spot with friendly people--worth a visit if you've got a sick lawn mower.
