El Toreador Restaurant has been at this location since 1957. Presently owned for 37 years since 1980. Its success has been a communal effort of had work for Larry and Esperanza Mahan. Sadly Larry passed away 10/28/11 . The restaurant continues his legazy of care and hard work by wife and two sons, Sheldon and Aaron Mahan. We strive to give customers the "whole enchilada" Great food, excellent service and an enjoyable experience that will compel you to come back again and again.

Great Mexican Food Great place for good mexican food in West Portal. Try the empalmadas (no, i don't mean empanadas) and a pitcher of margarita. Unfortunately they don't take reservations and the wait can get long, especially if you have more than two people in your party. PROS: Cheap, fun, good food CONS: no reservations, gets crowded
El Toreador I was not impressed with this restaurant, even though the owners (husband and wife) were freindly. First of all, we had to wait an extremely long time for the table. Inside the waiters were very unorganized. When we were finally seated, two different waiters wanted to take our orders. But they were not insync with each other. I ordered a simple steak burrito and it was completly disgusting. It had rice, beans, and about 3 pounds of melted and unmelted chhese inside!! It was the worst. El Toreador restaurant El Toreador is tucked away in a quaint and friendly San Francisco neighborhood called West Portal. There is always a long line but it is worth the wait. Food is pretty good and the atmosphere is colorful and alive. Prices will not break your pocketbook.
Great Mexican Food This is the most amazing Mexican restaurant. It is a little hole in the wall in West Portal but when you go inside they have all kinds of decorations and wall signs hanging up all over the entire restaurant. It is very small, a little on the expensive side for Mexican food, but definitely worth it. Their guacamole is the best and their carne asada burritos are the best. I recommend everyone should try eating here, the service is great and very friendly!

Came in last Sunday, one of the Brothers waited on us and was outstanding. Came up from Portland and stayed by the lake and the owner of the house said this was the place to go, and he was very right. Great food and drinks and service, will be back
