my new favorite place to eat!!! we went on a whim, my family of 5, and were seated within minutes. the margaritas were huge and fairly priced, as was the food. the service is excellent, and we were even served by the owner himself. we have since gone several times for lunch and always, the service is fast, the food is hot and delicious! free chips and homeade salsa are excellent as well.
Good family restaurant You might never guess that a restaurant in a strip mall was so good unless someone recommended it to you. If you visit El Matador, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the nice atmosphere, great menu, and tasty food. A good place to have a business lunch or to take the family for dinner. The place is big enough that families with little kids can be seated where they won't have to worry about bothering other diners, yet not a chain restaurant. Affordable and authentic Mexican food.
Don't Judge It By Its Looks My wife picked this place the first time we went and I didn't expect much (it's in a strip center near Kroger's and isn't too improssive from the outside). But everything inside IS impressive. The daily specials are varied and tasty (of course, I've only tried the special a couple times . . . Another Super Nasty! I dined here a few months ago and agree with the last review for this place about a year ago. The place is filthy and nasty inside and out. Has the health department done an inspection here lately? My goodness. If this is where you should take your family to dine, you should be shot for thinking so. Years ago, they were pretty good. There must have been a change in ownership.
El Matador I always thought this was just an OK restaurant. It is good tex-mex food just nothing super fancy. The prices are just a bit high for me considering the quality of level of service. Older establishment in Denton.

Wow !! to those bad comments, it seems to me, that some one is really trying to hurt the reputation of this family restaurant ( competitors maybe?); I stared going to EL MATADOR with my parents when I was 2 years old, and I never ever found anything wrong but a GREAT food, GREAT services and of course GREAT prices. El Matador I agree also. Do not go here unless you want to waste your money and get sick possibly. Not a good dining experience and definitely not for small children. Service is terrible and food taste and looks bad. When you walk in the front door pay attention to the smell. It's not food, it's something else. I would not recommend. Sorry.
Not that great. After reading everyone's great reviews on El matador I would see what all the fuss was about. I was very disappointed. First, the booth that we were seated in was still dirty and their was food stuck all over our menus, which then preceded to get all over my clothes. Next The service was absolutely horrible, the waiter only came by twice, once to take the order and then at the end to drop off the check. So no refills on my drink.
