4 stars ... barely 4 stars – While the food is really unique and delicious, I have had better for less money. Insert Buenos Aires Cafe here. The atmosphere is always lovely. It is super cozy and romantic. If you are lucky enough to have superb service, it can be a perfectly intimate, aphrodisiac kind of place (timing is important if you know what I mean). However, there have been times where the service was lacking - at least in relation to what I had experienced other times and in relation to what you would expect for the m... read more
great menu selection – -Sesame-encrusted catfish: pretty good; Garlic mashed potatoes: amazing; Pumpkin bread with caramel: delicious with extra caramel; Great variety; Classy, homey feel; Good for a group of 4 or less
WONDERFUL food! – Went there the first time a few weeks ago. Cozy old house experience! Our waitress was exceptional, the food was a delight for the senses, and the prices were reasonable. I can't wait to go back :)
Unique Find – I was in Austin overnight for business and Eastside had been recommended to a business associate as a nice place to eat near my hotel. Neither of us had eaten there before but the experience would definitely warrant a return visit and recommendation to others visiting Austin. The unique and eclectic menu should allow everyone to find something to meet their tastebuds. I particularly enjoyed the Shrimp and Goat Cheese Quesadillas as an appetizer. While practically everything we tried was very delicious, neither ... read more
Bad Customer Service – My family and I are always on the look out for restaurants to go, after Sunday morning service. I suggested Eastside Cafe, as we had visited this restaurant in the past, and found it to be a nice quaint place with wholesome food. This Sunday, I was greeted at the door as if I wanted something other than a nice place to eat. The greeter stated as my 13 yr old daughter and I entered with "how can we help ya'll", and she said this with such a disdain look on her face, as if I were an alien visting this pl... read more
Awful service and food! Would not recommend. – I would not recommend this place especially for "special" occassions. Took a friend there for a birthday dinner - the appetizer was good but the main course left us disappointed. The salmon was dry, the stuffed shrimp had little flavor, and the green beans were overcooked. I have heard the salads are wonderful but since they forgot to bring us ours we can't comment. The desserts were brought to us in a bag, when I asked that they please bring my guest his with a candle. When I s... read more
Best Valentines Day Dinner Ever! – Last night I took my girlfriend to the East Side Cafe and I couldn't have picked a better restaurant for this romantic holiday. We loved the atmosphere, the food was awesome and the staff was very friendly. Our waitress helped us pick a wine and was very helpful and attentive throughout our entire meal. I have to admit I played it on the safe side and ordered their sirloin meatloaf and my girlfriend ordered their pecan encrusted grilled chicken plate. My dish was excellent and the garlic ma... read more
A nice date place – I took my girlfriend here because I had heard a lot about it. The restaurant has a very nice eclectic feel to it which carried on throughout. I strongly recommend making reservations (even for lunch/dinner on a weekday), because otherwise you might be waiting a good 30 minutes like I did. The wait may have been slightly long, but the waiting areas outside have a romantic feel to it. The ambiance of the restaurant was great and the staff was courteous and prompt. The wine list was better than many restaura... read more
A little skewed – I went to this restaurant expecting to check out solid gardens and some great local, organic food. I have to admit I was a little disappointed. I'm well aware of the time (Early September) and the drought, but they have only an herb garden on-site! An herb garden with loads of basil and bay leaves at that. Their menu was a little on the bland side and they actually did not use much of the herbs in the food, mostly as garnish... I had specifically gone into this expecting something a little more than what I ... read more
