I'm not sure what country you are from, but you are wrong about tipping. Why would you not tip on an alcoholic drink? That's the most ignorant thing I've heard in a long time. Servers and bartenders are paid one half of minimum wage, and every night they have to report their tips, which in turn is reported to the IRS. Sneaky/Hidden Charges Food & Service are Satisfactory. I did, however, find it odd that we were charged for Ranch dipping sauce (50 cents for each little plastic cup) which I think is really petty. I hate when places nickel and dime you! I also think they should learn about how tipping is calculated. I generally leave 20% for good food/service, and 18% for anything less. How the mighty have fallen My wife and I loved to go to Beck's. It was our favorite place to eat. The food was delicious, plentifull portions and reasonably priced. I don't know why, but for some reason everything changed. Some of our favorite items disappeared from the menu, fewer choices were available, the quality got worse. I ordered beef stroganoff and what I got was a bowl of egg noodles with brown gravy and a glob of sour cream on top. I have had better stroganoff from a frozen dinner. Becks is not so good I cannot disagree more with these reviewers. Becks is mediocre, basically crappier than Applebees or TGI's.For salads and pizza go to Amantes' and for crab cakes go to Salernos and for burgers or wings, go to Buffalo Wings and Beer (very lowbrow, but if you want fancy, skip Baldwin Station and go to DC).
E W Beck's Pub is YUM! The food is fantastic, the price is great, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Only down side is the waitress'. We never seem to get a great one... Other than that we love it!
Solid Food, Pretty Good Service Beck's has been good food every time I have been there. Unfortunately, the same can not be said of the service. It seems quite hit or miss based on the waitress, what I would expect if I were going to an Applebees or a Chilis, not from Beck's. C'est La Vis.
Sykesville's Best Non-Chain This is definitely the best eat-in restaurant that Sykesville has to offer. Very tasty menu, I have yet to be disappointed. I recommend their crab dip, divine! The prices are very fair, casual style dining. Only warnings would be that this place is PACKED Fri & Sat! Go early or plan on waiting at least 35 mins. Great bar selection, and the bar is open until 1am some nights.
The best Cream of Crab soup EVER! I just love their cream of crab soup. The flavors are very delicate and there is lots of crab. They have a lot of other wonderful things on the menu so that the whole family is happy when we eat there.
