We have gone to this doctor since my first son was born 2/6/09. I feel Dr. Shlafer is a very good caring doctor that tries other forms of treatment before prescribing potentially harmful medications. I have been nothing but happy with how my son and myself is treated there and would recommend him to friends and family. Another thing I appreciate about Dr. Shlafer is he is very willing to work with a immunization schedule that you are comfortable with. We refused the Hep. Have been going to see Dr. Shlafer for many years, in fact my oldest son will soon be too old to go there! Yes, he sees a lot of patients in a day and can get rushed. If your child is sick he will fit you in that day, and that could be what contributes to the rush, and wait times. He is good at what he does and he knows his stuff. He's great with kids too. His philosophy on immunizations conflicted with my beliefs. He came off condescending and questions your beliefs. Not friendly, nor his staff. Much better practices out there.
He's been a great doctor for both of my kids. He tends to avoid drugs if possible, and generally gives you enough background about his recommendations to let you make an educated decision for yourself. He's great with the kids. I have always been able to get an appointment same day, and he always responds quickly to call in his off hours.
North Sound Pediatrics does not have up to date immunization records. Long story short, they had scheduled my daughter for immunizations that she has already had and does not need. I was unaware of this until i requested the child profile Washington state immunization form, from my daughters school nurse. When i looked at this form i saw that she is up to date, and does not need any more shots. And also none of the four shots that she has had from North Sound Pediatrics were on the state form. Dr. Shlafer is a good dr. to a certain extent but his cure's for everything seem's to be the same.Also if you miss an appt. and not call he'll probably tell you to find a different dr. also do not go to a walk in clinic cuz he'll give you a letter and tell you not to come back so if you want to walk on egg shell's then he might be a good doctor for your child.
Your appointment time is never the time you get in to see the doctor. His staff is aways rushed because he sees too many patients in a day. He is quick and you feel like you aren't sure if what he said is wrong is real. Very quick to refer out so he can move on to another less complicated patient.
HE'S RUSHED. SEE'S TOO MANY PATIENT'S PER DAY. SO YOU DON'T FEEL YOU GET THE QUALITY OF CARE YOUR CHILD DESERVES. THERE CAN BE LONG WAITS TO SEE HIM AND THEN YOU MAY GET 5-10 MIN. OF HIS TIME. HE THINKS HE IS THE BEST DOCTOR AROUND BUT REALLY THERE ARE A LOT OF BETTER, MORE CARING AND COMPASSIONATE DOCTORS IN THE LOCAL AREA.
