If I had to do it again, I would choose someone else. Anyone but him!!He has to compassion while he’s cutting your eye.
A follow-up report: In December 2021 I wrote a review about my experience with Dr. Kootman and how miraculously my cataract surgery and toric interocular lens replacement went. I'm happy to say that Dr. Kootman continues to monitor my eye condition carefully and I'm still amazed at the results - still 20/20. And it is still a bit strange to not have to put my glasses on first thing.
Dr Kootman quickly diagnosed and fully explained what I was experiencing in my left eye as Fuchs' Dystrophy. He mapped out a plan to address and correct the condition which ended up with him performing a surgical procedure known as DMEK (Partial Thickness Corneal Transplant).The outcome was a total success. Expect to wait at least an hour (or more) for your appt. unless you are the first one of the day. Other eye professionals have more updated techniques and equipment. Optical dept. is still shut down so you have to go elsewhere. If you are an advocate for your parent, I would suggest another office.
The office staff were always friendly and professional. Dr. Kootman always treated me professionally and with courtesy and concern for my well being. Always answered questions.
Dr. Kootman was recommended to me by a friend at church. I had cataracts in both eyes. I also had acute astigmatism in both eyes. Dr. Kootman performed the cataract surgery with toric interocular lens replacement first in the right eye, then two weeks later the left. The results have been miraculous. I now have 20/20 vision in both eyes and for the first time in 64 years I don't have to wear glasses. I basically got new eyes for Christmas. Also, a word about Dr. Kootman's staff. Dr Kootman and his staff are professional experienced and create a welcoming atmosphere. We were referred to him several years ago we trust his diagnosis’s , surgeries and we would not think of changing Dr Kootman or offices! I especially like that students are part of his practice. I arrived in Arizona needing a Cornea Specialist to correct my vision problem. I was not familiar with the areas Ophthalmologists combined with a Cornea Specialist.
