Thirteen years ago today I was involved in a head-on collision which resulted in an exploded tibia plateau. Inova Loudoun transferred me to Inova Fairfax to the good hands of Dr. Shulman. He explained what they were about to perform on me, as I was going unconscious ??, but that it was a rare injury that they only see once a year. Such an incredibly kind doctor. And I really felt he what he was talking about, and could translate it so well, that even I could understand. Even better, he takes the time to listen. I tore my LCL, and he explained in granular detail everything, while looking at my MRI with me. He even went through each layer of my leg, front to back, to show the integrity of everything else, and why surgery was not recommended. Then proceeded to recommended me for physical therapy.
Dr. Schulman gave me a new titanium femur in a trauma situation at Fairfax hospital as well as determining many of my other fractures to be inoperable. While I have no recollection of the initial consult and surgery my family has said he was great. I can attest to the wonderful follow up care I received with him emailing me addressing concerns in between office visits. I’m thankful he was on call the day I was flown in.
Dr Schulman was my trauma surgeon after breaking my femur. He came in after the first surgery didn't work to give me a hip replacement. I found Mr. Schulman to be one of the most caring and concerned doctors I have ever met. He kept in touch, responded to any fears or inquiries I had and was also realistic with what I could expect during and after the surgery.
Dr. Schulman is extremely knowledgeable, a great teacher (has the ability to speak on any level), makes sure you are fully informed, and actually sticks around waiting for you to ask questions! Very professional with a twist of humanity.
I'm particularly impressed with a Dr. that has the confidence in his own abilities enough to bring in another Dr. within the practice to give a second opinion without having been requested. He's very patient
