Dr Berger is clearly a busy doctor with a lot of patients at a large hospital. A very smart guy and talented surgeon who also is a bit aloof and arrogant. But i will take my surgeons a little self confident and very good over super nice and average talent

Dr. Berger changed my life. I was suffering from chronic pain in my groin for 3 years. I went to numerous urologists and even a surgeon and no one could figure out what was wrong with me. I had 2 CT scan and 3 ultra sounds. Everyone was baffled. It was very depressing and I really thought I would have to live with this my whole life. After switching doctors, my new primary referred me to Dr. Berger. Within 15 minutes he diagnosed me with an inguinal hernia. Sometimes these are difficult to find. I have my surgery on 2/16/11 ... read more

Was referred to him by my primary care physician at MGH who raved about Dr. Berger's abilities. When I met him I found him to be arrogant and short with an answer. If I didn't research my condition I don't know what information I would know, because he wasn't going to offer any. His five minutes of time with me were rushed and my questions seemed to bother him. He never gave me a straight answer to anything. I never used him as my surgeon because of this. He does not seem to interact well with patients.

Fantastic doctor. I can't thank him enough for what he did for me (got rid of my very painful gallstones). He must be good with his tools because I never had a moment's pain.

Dr. Berger and team were wonderful to my family and me throughout my recent sigmoidectomy. Pre-op information sharing was excellent. Dr. Berger exhibited the patience to spend whatever time was necessary with me to answer all my questions. Surgery was successful, with outstanding pain management, (I walked home two days after surgery with only over the counter Tylenol in me). Post-op Dr. Berger informed my wife immediately after completing my surgery then visited me bedside as did many other members of the surgical team. Ove... read more

My brother has cancer of the esophagis. Berger did the surgery 2 days ago, did not call the family said he lost the number and then forgot. We were now told that because they did not clean something good during the surgery he now has an infection, penumonia, and is on a ventalator. This is poor care should not be tolarated. Whatg about my brother, his wife and his family. We have not seen the doctor since. He has zero bedside manner. THe nurses at the hospital care more about my brother than the doctor. Hope his malpractice ... read more

this dr. berger at Mass. General was a disaster. I had skin cancer and went to another doctor there-a highly recommend dermatogist-he did such a radical biopsy-buy slicing the entire top of it off-it became quite infected. The cancer kept growing at a rapid rate. I waited one month to hear back from this other doctor-after it became so large and badly infected-the dermatogist raved about Dr. MIchael Berger to do surgery on this large infected cancer that had ulcerated. Couldn't sleep for a month-since it was so open and raw.... read more

He cuts and goes. The care after the surgery is left to his stuff. Does not bother to come at your bed see how you're doing. I don't even think he is a good surgeon - numbers are more important than his patients. Numbers of people he cuts, money he gets - is just about numbers not about people. Super arogant

Agree that he is stereotypical surgeon with a huge ego. Also the first surgeon out of 15 in my experience who failed to notify our family when our loved one was out of surgery. Did not like him at all and would not go back- he's too arrogant for us.
