Our Business Goal To educate the general public on the historical geology of the Appalachian Mountains, how they were formed and what can be found here. Doc's Rocks Gem Mine is an Appalachian Mountain based gemstone mining operation. We purchase mine ore by the ton from local gemstone mines located in North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. We had a wonderful time yesterday! Always so much fun to see what we can find. Had been too long since our last visit. Love that we are getting real dirt to mine and not planted buckets of stones.
My family and I had such a fantastic time today at doc's rocks! We found rubies, a small sapphire, and a couple huge pieces of amethyst and rose quartz. Most important my girls had a REALLY good time. The staff was SUPER friendly and knowledgable about the stones we gathered. We made 2 amethyst rings and a citrine necklace. Super experience, highly recommend this when in Boone and surrounding areas.
Any time I'm in the mountains I plan a trip to Doc's. I've been to a lot of "gem mines" and by far Doc's is the best!
