Founded in 1963 by Portland culinary icon Horst Mager, der Rheinlander offered a unique experience with strolling accordion players and singing waitresses. Almost 50 years later owner Suzeanne Mager, Horst’s daughter, carries the authentic old-world feel with traditionally dressed, singing staff serving scratch-made recipes and extensive German beer and wine selections.

Probably the best German food in the Portland area.
It was wonderful to share this childhood memory with my daughter. I was sad that the black kettles of Cheese Fondue and lentil soup were not a part of the experience anymore. I also missed from my memories the authentic dress.
I have been coming here for 25+ years, and I loved it but not so much anymore ;-( They took the Chicken cordon bleu off the menu a while ago but now they have changed their main staple, their bread which is now hard and dry! Disappointed!
Like the food and the setting just needs to be less noise
Great happy hour and nice to have some new options! Good job!
