Conflicted – I'm conflicted about Delfina. Each of the three times I've eaten here, the food has been good but the service has really lagged. Our appetizers always arrived before the wine, and on the last visit we had to remind the server about the $70 bottle we'd ordered. The food is always good and the menu intriguing, but you get the sense that the place is running on previous success and press (the chef seems absent from the whole production). Used to be one of my faves... – I used to love Delfina, but I've been disappointed my last three visits here. At one time, their steak was delicious -- melt-in-your-mouth. Now it's exactly like everywhere else. Similar problems with the buttermilk pannacotta. A delicious, unique dessert that used to have a caramelized sauce that has now been replaced with bland, typical lemon. What happened? New chef? Don't Believe the Hype – If you live in San Francisco, this is probably a place to see and be seen for the "Beautiful People", but it certainly isn't a good choice for top line, authentic Italian cuisine. Our waitress was a rookie at using a corkscrew and almost put out my eye. The overall service/attitude was equivalent to what you'd find in a chain restaurant. Another Foodie Fav – I've been coming to Delfina for awhile and the food has been consistently delicious and fresh. I think I've tried almost everything on the menu and my favorite entree is still the young chicken with mash potatoes. It's a steal for $13!!! Parking is a drag in this neighborhood but the food is worth it.
Nice atmosphere, good food, fun time... – I was here last night for my birthday and had a great time. There was a good mix of people and a very happy vibe to the place. Although the tables are quite close together, it's not suffocating but rather just really cozy. I thought the service was great too. A truly consistent restaurant. – It seems this place is always jumping, even on a weekday evening. The Grilled Calamari and White Beans is always a fabulous starter as was the PEI mussels (a special of the evening). The challenges are noise levels, reservations and parking.
bad service, o.k. food – sitting at the bar at delfina is uncomfortable enough, but the waitress was so spacy and distracted that it made our meal really forgettable. she forgot about us at least twice. the food prices have crept up, Delfina used to be a lot cheaper. i won't be back.
hidden in the mission – Excellent food in a surprising location. I love this place. We have always gotten there early to avoid the long waits.
stunning italian cuisine! – simply amazing italian. make reservations well in advance and get ready for a truly magnificent dining experience. the salmon with tarragon is a must.
