Recommended by several locals as the place to visit as a tourist in town for one night. Loved the food and the whole staff was super friendly.
I think they may have a new chef/manager. Two weeks ago, shrimp and grits , eating there for 15 years , grits soupy, my favorite dish. asked why staff stated that this is how it's been since the waitress started there. not so for the past 15 years .usually sauce is thicker and NOT soupy. staff Very nice was offered to comp the dinner or replace,I declined but won't order again and it was my favorite. Howley's never disappoints! Anytime I walk in I'm always greeted warmly by the staff. Food is amazing. I shared an order of chili potato skins with my mom as well as ordering the blackened chicken with penne spinach and mushrooms while my mom had a custom made omelet. Everything was delicious! Try the bourbon root beer float! Loved it! Ask for Jessica! She is such a sweetheart! The type of person you could have sit down and eat with you if she wasn't on the job lol!
Kyle is a shitty cook. Doesn't work with gloves and poor hygiene along with cross contamination are leading factors in food borne illness. I'd see him put his hairy forearms on plate surfaces as he texted on his phone. When I'd advise otherwise he'd remind me "this is a sucky place anyways".
Service was slow but not horrible. Food wasn't that great the gratin potatoes were less than desirable. The mashed potatoes tasted delicious. Their steamed vegetable melody not very good. And their brisket tasted more like pot roast. The best part was the cheesecake dessert that big mama made I highly recommend any dessert from Big Momma's House of sweets that they offer.
