I had cataract surgery and it was one of the best medical experiences of my life. Staff was amazing and dr Lourens impeccable with his bedside manner and surgical skills. I went from needing glasses for everything to now having the best vision of my life. Better than 20/20 vision and I am reading small print. I can even thread a needle without glasses. Absolutely life changing surgery. I cannot recommend dr Lourens and Crystal Eye and Laser Centre more strongly!! If I could give a hundred stars I would!
After corrective surgery to a retna detachment I was always advised there was nothing I could do to rectify the subsequent vision impairement until I was directed to Dr Van Zyl who did an amazing job restoring my vision. Overall my vision now is better then 20/20 and reading without glasses or contacts. I am forever grateful for Dr Van Zyl for improving my quality of life.

Dr Lourens van Zyl performed my Bilateral Lense replacement surgery on 24 July 2025. The procedure was undertaken at Sundew day surgery. During the procedure I was under a general anaesthetic. There was no pain at all either during or after the procedure. The time from admission to discharg was approximately 3.5 hours.
