Consuelo Mexican Bistro recalls Mexico City of the early 1900s. In addition to an excellent traditional Mexican cuisine (served in a small plate format), Consuelo has a full Latino drink bar. The homemade guacamole is really worth a try. Another fine offering is the Agua Frescas, which is flavored water in mango or strawberry - the perfect cooler for hot days or hot nights. The place is a part of the Santana Row and it's quite the local hit when it comes to Mexican dishes and cocktails; reservations are strongly recommended.

Service needs improvement, but the food is good. – I've been here a few times and the food is consistently good, but the service is hit or miss. Usually, a miss. It doesn't make a difference if it's crowded or not. It has the potential to be a great place if they could just improve upon their service. If you appreciate good flavored coffee, they have it, but the cup is small and be prepared to wait, wait, and wait for a refill---a deterrent if you're out for weekend brunch.
Awesome 5***** – I had been to Consuelo Mexican Bistro couple of times - mainly for brunch/lunch. The food is real good. The menu is pretty good ... I normally don't prefer Mexican food. But I love this place.
Best Chile Relleno – I never liked Mexican food before. I earn miles on certain restaurant that participates and this one does. We tried it one day, and I acquired a taste for Mexican food. Also tried: chicken mole, carnitas, lamb and lately the newest menu, scallop. It was cooked to perfection just a little too salty (but I am on a no salt diet at home).
not recommend this place to my worst enemy!!! – Went for breakfast/brunch .What a bomb! Horrible!!!! Service stinks you couldn't get the waiters attention if your life was dependent on it...food was cold and unappetizing...my wife practically cried when her small portion of food arrived...had to go to chilis restaurant to eat something( i never thought I would say this but chilis tasted divine at this moment!!) Overpriced and under good – This was my second visit to Consuelo. We visited because we wanted tapas, but didn't want to brave the rainy day, rush hour traffic to Mountain View for Cascal. That was a big mistake. I wasn't impressed with Consuelo on my first visit, but my second one was even less impressive. The food was heavy handed and overly dense/greasy/fatty. Great New Mexican Option – This restaurant was a welcome addition to Santana row among the Italian and American offerings. My husband and I went there for brunch on Sunday. The Bloody Mary's there are PERFECT. I had a Mexican version of Eggs Benedict; my husband had some type of Portebello mushroom and cheese dish. Both were excellent. Such a disappointment – True Mexican or not, this place has a lot to be desired. I read several good reviews of this place so I talked a couple friends into going this past week. The menu looked very interesting, everything is Tapas style but a bit on the high $$ side. I figured the portions would make up for it. Horrible food and service. – The only thing I liked at this restaurant was the booth I got to sit in. Other than that, our waiter seemed rushed and indifferent towards us. He did not explain the menu or check up on us during our meal. The meat we ordered was plain and just not good. The tortillas and guacamole were ok, but I don't think it is difficult to mess those up. I do not recommend this place at all!!!
good food; expensive drinks – I stick to my favorites, and here, it is the 'fresh fish' with green beans and truffle sauce. The fish is always perfect and I 'clean' the sauce off my plate. The mole chicken is too sweet, needs more flavor/spices. Improved greatly with salt. The guacamole is delicious, but not a value. The sangria is delicious - there were sweet mango pieces in it; but they added ICE! which watered it down. Ask for no ice.
