Prospective Native American students drive 7 hours to attend a campus tour. 'Concerned' parent on same tour feels 'unsafe' because they are too quiet, and calls campus police to question them. Campus police comply under guise of 'security' and remove them from the tour, but determine they are safe. Student tour guide does not notice police presence and moves the tour on. Native American students miss tour. Perfect example of systemic racism.
Racism is alive & rampant in this country. All students, incoming & current, faculty & staff members should be mandated to do trainings in multicultural competence. It should be a full term class for all incoming freshmen & other trainings should be given to all who are presently there. The university is at fault as well as the mother & CSUPD, it's called institutionalized racism. Would also like to hear more than CSU "reached out to the boys & their parents".
Blatant racism on a college tour? Keep searching, kids. When a Native American is paying attention and being quiet and respectful on a college tour but gets profiled and removed by police solely because of being brown? Pardon my language, but fuck this place!! Sickening.
At the very least, CSU admissions needs to reimburse these young men’s costs of the trip from New Mexico. Even better, please give them a *full* ride (tuition, books, board, meal plan) as well as introducing them to some mentors to help them become successful people at your institution.
Don't allow people of color to be discriminated against! Refund those native Americans their money and offer them a tour for free. Unless you agree with what happened!
