John came with my wife and I to see a home that needed a lot of work in melrose. After speaking with him, I could tell he was well informed, honest, and easy to work with. He gave his assessment and could tell from our situation that this house was not the right fit for us given the cost of work and time it would take to make the house a home for my family. We hired Cogs Construction and Design to renovate our hallways and staircase. Everything looks brand new and beautiful. They did such a fantastic job I can't recommend them enough. They were also incredibly neat and clean - complete perfectionists from the beginning to the end of the project. Also - they are very nice guys, lovely to work with. You will absolutely not regret hiring them for your next project.

We hired Cogs to gut-remodel our kitchen and turn an underused Great Room into three new spaces. The Great Room went from one large cavernous room to three spaces – a family room, a gym, and a second floor loft playroom for our daughters – this idea was made possible with John's design expertise and creativity. We wanted to finish the basement of our 5-year old house and have more space for guests. However, we have had some bad experiences with contractors, so we were concerned about hiring the wrong person for such a big project. Met with several contractors and got estimates for a bathroom renovation, some structural repair and living room renovation. Went with Cogs after meeting with John a few times. We have had bad experiences in the past, so we had a lot of questions and John was very patient in answering all of them in an honest and forthright manner - even when he had to deliver news that we didn't necessarily want to hear. We hired Cogs construction for our master bedroom and bathroom renovation. From day on John Cognata was there every step of the way. He is honest, attentive and has high standards for the work being done. It was a long project but the workers were professional and respectful so it did not feel intrusive. Our master bedroom and bathroom is stunning! We are extremely happy with how the project has turned out. We will use John again with any future work to our house.

I had met John Cognata on a real estate informational session and I could tell he knew what was important in choosing a home that needed remodeling. When hiring a contractor, quality is important, but showing up is usually more than half the battle. Working with Cogs Construction has renewed my faith in the profession. After years of having difficulties even getting contractors to respond let alone do solid work, our first project with Cogs (and subsequent ones) have been a pleasure. They are the first and only call we make when we need work on the house.
