I’ve lived in Dekalb my entire life. It started off as a nice little town but slowly turning into the ghetto with all the college kids coming to buy. But the worst thing the city could have done is got rid of waste management for garbage service. They have been a loyal company for 25+ years to our community. I would rather pay a few extra dollars for more services provided for the community. Just doesn’t make sense in my eyes.
Try driving going south on peace. Notice the hair brain patched together peace road between pleasant street and 38? Who's planned and approved that mess? Was this a ploy to get more tax dollars?
Fell in love with DeKalb ever since I attended NIU in 2014. Get to work with great people at City of DeKalb too!
People love to party here and won't be willing to fight you if you act a fool
I love DeKalb. My kids are getting a great education in the schools. Plus, NIU brings diversity which is important in today's world economy, and surrounding my kids with people of all types has been a fantastic experience. I live, work, and am raising my family here and couldn't be happier.
Friendly quiet community but international with NIU plus their cultural events and sports. Yet you can be in the countryside in minutes. Everything you need to buy is here. No need to drive to the burbs. If you do want to get out of town, no traffic jams. In under 2 hours you can be in Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago or the Mississippi. Commuter train to the Chicago area is 20 minutes away. I moved my family here 25 years ago and won't move.
