I have been with Dr Merifield since my previous provider retired. I’m a ‘complex and chronic pain patient’, with both my C-spine and L-S spine fused, with lots of additional hardware— an intrathecal pump and two (!) electrostimulators, plus nerve damage from surgery on both feet. I’ve found Dr Merifield to be willing to listen to my needs, but also strongly bound by the ethics of his profession. Where for many years opiates were the go-to medication for pain, they are now seen by pain specialists as often doing more harm tha... read more

I transferred to Merifield when my doctor left. First visit: Hello, let’s lower your meds by 1/3. He kept going on about my back, but I have no back pain. I don’t think I said more than a few words. He put me on a different medication and I had severe side effects after 2 days. 2 weeks later he refused to change it. Long story, but the clinic manager told me “I slipped through the cracks” after writing and calling 30 times (documented). Finally saw him 2 months later. My doctor put me on antidepressants to counter the side e... read more

In my opinion this man isn't interested in his patient's condition at all. Never once even asked how I was feeling...I don't think he knows what my condition is...his only interest is getting people off meds, even though they help me. Swedish has made a big mistake. He treats me like he hates me.

Dr. Merifield should not be practicing pain management. He has no empathy, sympathy, or interest in resolving his patient's pain. He told me he doesn't talk to my other doctors because it's not his job. He told me I shouldn't be in pain. He told me it was my choice to be lying in bed. He has no inclination to help and he is an awful excuse of a doctor.

He is very critical about my previous doctor who retired. He doesn't read my chart to see everything that has been tried in the past. He has no compassion and I feel as if he doesn't think I am in pain. He wants to stop medications I'm taking and doesn't think I need RFA, even though I tell him how much it helps. When I ask what he plans to do instead, he always says he will discuss at next appointment, but never does. He doesn't listen to me and dismisses my pain as if he could care less.

Dr. Merifield is new to a practice that has a great reputation. He’s not well suited there. He said no one should take even low dose opioids unless they have cancer. He admitted he knew nothing about my disease, but he rolled his eyes and scoffed at the treatments of every specialist I’ve seen (including pain specialists at a teaching hospital). He also makes overt sexist comments. Worst clinician I’ve ever seen.
