DO NOT choose Dr. Gualtieri for your medical procedures. While I won’t speak to his medical ability, since I did not experience any, his business and ethical practices are horrible and reprehensible. I was told that for stye removal it would be $175 and the office visit alone was $85. When the doctor examined me, he said I didn't have a stye. They charged me $25 with no other mention of additional cost. Months later, I get a bill in the mail for an additional $87.78. That plus the $25 I paid doesn’t add up to $85. As directed, I called billing several times but got the run around. After I posted a negative review, Dr Gualtieri finally responded via email with the following condescending message:
“I sawur (sic) Health Grades review. You have dramatically changed your story to distort the facts. (Obviously you are not understanding the concept of an insurance deductible). You have slandered my name and reputation on a public forum. You have committed a libelous act for which I will seek legal action against you. You will receive communication from my legal team regarding choices including removing the review or proceeding with a lawsuit.”
I called his bluff and responded that sharing my experience is not illegal and offered to settle the matter for $50 (since the office visit should not have been over $100 like he was charging me.) He replied:
“I am happy to settle this matter and move forward. If you agree, the $50.00 request will be honored. I will however have my attorneys draft a legal document for you to sign and it will require you to remove any negative postings and not post any more in the future regarding my practice.”
But rather than honor his word, he instead quietly sent it to collections along with a second charge for work that he did not even do so that by the time we found out about it we could no longer contest it. Completely unethical. Entirely immoral. If he did not want to settle the matter, he should have simply said so. All of this for a 10-minute visit in which he did no procedures. My suggestions to anyone reading this:
DO NOT put yourself at risk with a doctor quick to threaten lawsuits over online opinions.
Find a more ethical professional who is not interested in price gauging vulnerable people.
Choose a more honest person who follows through on his word and the word of his staff.
There are many, many doctors out there. DO NOT risk yourself with this one.
If you can’t trust a doctor with his word, his staff, or your money, you definitely don’t want to trust him with your eyes.
If something were to go wrong, you don’t want a doctor that has no sense of personal responsibility or accountability who will hide behind excuses, lies, threats, and/or lawyers to avoid doing the right thing.
