Very rarely in The City does one find a restaurant that has extremely low prices while maintaining the highest quality food. Chow Food Drink is an unusual restaurant that offers excellent food at low prices. No wonder the wait is always an hour long. The menu includes favorites such as the Roasted Half-Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Cranberries, or Linguini with Clams, Mussels, Prawns, and Fresh Fish. A full dinner with a drink can be had for no cost at all.

Great Food at a Great Price – Both Chow and Park Chow are SF dining gems. In a city that sometimes seems so brand-name conscious and can have such an air of "money culture" about it, it's wonderful to have a breath of fresh air like Chow (and Park Chow). The daily specials are truly special, and the regular entrees are comfort cuisine with a slight SF twist. The Ginger Cake dessert is heavenly-- a must have!
quality eats at perfect prices – Chow has been my favorite restaurant for years. The one on Church Street is quite busy and full of life. The one on 9th Street is also quite enchanting and offers a lot more seating - indoor and out.
One of my regular haunts in SF – Chow and Park Chow are two of my favorite restaurants that I always try to visit when I'm in the Bay Area. The food is affordable, comforting, and well thought-out without being overdone. The daily specials are usually decent, as are the soups. Don't miss the wood-fired mussels appetizer, and whatever you do, do NOT pass up the ginger cake with pumpkin ice cream and caramel sauce for dessert. The Chows are decent places for a good meal with friends or a casual date...it can get pretty crowded... read more
Park Chow is better – I've been to Park Chow in Sunset quite a few times and have loved it every time...coming away full and not broke. But the Castro location pales in comparison. I had the pasta with chicken, sausage, tomato and cream and there were only a few slices of chicken and the sausage was of poor quality. Like the ends of sausages that aren't edible. Also, the portions at the Castro location are smaller than those at the Sunset location, which makes it not a "cheap eat" but a moderate eat.
ok for SF eats, not for 'dining' – Pretty good food for relatively cheap eats I guess. The waitstaff were ungroomed and kinda (sloppy?) if you dont mind that. They also said they'd come get us at the bar next door when our table was ready and never did. All in all I'd say... it's better than Sparky's.
quaint casual dining – The staff and crowd at Chow is quite casual. So casual, in fact, a woman felt comfortable breast feeding in the dining room....The portions here are ample, and, our servers were very reliable. This is a good place for dinner before going out in the Castro or somewhere else closeby.
Great value, good food – Chow has a lot of things going for it. It's in a great location, has good food, is affordable, has an attentive wait staff and one of the best bar dining in the city. It's also a great place if you happen to be eating alone--just grab an empty bar stool and order away. Dishes to try: The salmon, which is a great bargain; the spaghetti with meatballs (very tasty); singing noodles. Place is super crowded on the weekends and for brunch. Just put your name on the list and wait at the bar next door, which... read more
